Hallmark

Hallmark has a new series in the works. The Chicken Sisters is an eight-episode series that’s based on the bestselling book by KJ Dell’Antonia. It will star Wendie Malick and Lea Thompson. Read on to get the new details.

The Chicken Sisters Has a Star-Studded Cast

The Hallmark Channel shared the details about this new series. The Chicken Sisters is a family drama that’s “dipped in southern charm and served up with a saucy side of romance.” There’s a “generations-old rift between dueling fried chicken restaurants – Mimi’s and Frannie’s.”

The feud is so bad that it “has left the founders’ families fractured and the locals taking sides.” It will affect their beloved cooking show, Kitchen Clash. The reality show gets attention for all the wrong reasons. It causes “sparks to fly as secrets are spilled and feathers get ruffled.”

This is a different series for the Hallmark Channel, which thrives on romantic films and television shows. When Calls the Heart is the most successful and longest-running series on the network.

Hallmark renewed the show for the 12th season. Showrunner and executive producer Annie Mebane spoke to Variety about why she wanted The Chicken Sisters on Hallmark.

The Chicken Sisters

When I read The Chicken Sisters by KJ Dell’Antonia, I fell in love with these characters,” she explained. “On the surface, the show is about two restuarants competing on a reality show, but it’s about the baggage we pass down through the generations and learning to unpack it. I love telling this multigenerational story focused on women: their frustrations, their desires, and ultimately, their healing.”

New Hallmark Series in Production

The limited series attracted big names such as Wendie Malick, Lea Thompson, Genevieve Angelson, and Schuyler Fisk. Lisa Hamilton Daly, excecutive vice president of programming at Hallmark Media called this “a dream cast.” The show is currently in development.

It’s unclear when it’ll end up in production and when it will premiere. This new series will have a combination of humor and heart. Hallmark is hoping this limited series will leave viewers wanting more.

Currently, only two original series air on the network. When Calls the Heart will wrap up its 11th season soon. The second season of The Way Home is currently filming its second season. Ride was cancelled after the first season. Fans are hoping that The CW will pick up the rodeo drama.
