The Bold and The Beautiful (B&B) spoilers and updates tease that Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) must make a life-or-death decision concerning his birth mother. Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) has flatlined after being brought in with a heart attack and his adoptive mother, Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) says to let her die-will he do what’s right?
Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) had cornered Sheila in the alley behind Il Giardino, where Finn himself and Steffy Forrester-Finnegan (Jacqueline Macinnes Wood) had been shot. Soon Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) showed up along with police and by the time they got there, Sheila was on the ground after collapsing. They all thought she was faking but the ambulance was called anyway, since if she wasn’t that could get them all in trouble.
She’s brought in on emergency and Li is the doctor on duty as Steffy and Finn are there, they’d been canoodling in his office. A nurse in the know tells Finn his birth mother has been brought in and he finds her in an intake room with Li, who’s ignoring her.
Tests by the paramedics who brought her in with the rescue squad showed that Sheila had indeed suffered a heart attack, even though Steffy thinks she’s faking too. She’s hooked up to the heart monitor and Finn watches as she flatlines and codes while his adoptive mother, Li does nothing. Li advises, with the nurse in the room watching, to let Sheila die, she doesn’t deserve to live for all she did to them. Finn is appalled at his mother, what happened to the Hippocratic oath they both had to take to become doctors? That’s the one that says “first, do no harm!”
Even though Sheila may have shot and thought she killed him, once she found where he was there was a time he coded and she saved his life using a defibrillator. He may not know that but he knows that she took care of him after Li disappeared, but he was unconscious when that happened-he was filled in on what happened later. This may or may not be a factor in his decision, which has to happen quickly, but he ultimately pulls out the paddles and jumps in.
Whether Li values her medical license or not or Sheila’s life, Finn values life, period, no matter whose it is. He took an oath to care for all patients, so even though he’s conflicted because Sheila’s death would solve a lot of problems, he honors his oath.
