General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal the day that fans knew was coming for months. Epiphany Johnson has passed away, just like Sonya Eddy, the actress who played her.

General Hospital Spoilers – Elizabeth Webber Gets The News

A lot was made of Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) pointing out that Epiphany had been her friend and mentor and she couldn’t imagine why she hadn’t heard from her. However, this week she learns that Epiphany passed away during her trip to Maryland to visit Johns Hopkins University Medical School. She was accepted to one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

While some fans had hoped that we would believe that Epiphany was off living her best life in med school, the show decided that was not meant to be and instead, it is providing closure for the audience and the cast.

General Hospital Updates – A Memorial For Epiphany Johnson

The March 29, 2023, episode of General Hospital will be a special standalone show that remembers Epiphany and all she has meant to the soap and to the hospital. The powers that be toyed with sending Epiphany off into the sunset, but instead, they went the other route, especially since they knew they could never recast anyone so iconic.

“I think because it’s a very somber, very moving episode, we wanted it to come before the Nurses Ball,” Executive Producer Frank Valentini said in the April 3, 2023, issue of Soap Opera Digest. “We wanted it to come before the Nurses Ball so that you can experience all the sadness and the grief and then we can move on to the celebration ball. And, I don’t want to ruin too much of the surprise, but Epiphany is a very pivotal person in the Nurses Ball, as well, so it’s almost like it’s a part two [of her tribute].”

Expect to see characters like Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Felix DuBois (Marc Anthony Samuel), and Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) on hand, as well as Eddy’s real-life pal, actress Yvette Nicole Brown. Yes, it will be a sad day indeed in Port Charles, but it was a sad day in real life when fans learned of Eddy’s untimely and shocking death just before Christmas.
