One thing longtime viewers of The Young and The Restless will agree on, whether they are Team Adam or not, he has a pretty not so pretty history! There is the infamous night that he accidentally ran over Delia Abbott (Sophie Pollono). Granted, it was an accident. But he didn’t do due diligence in checking by the side of the road or check his car for any damage. He obviously must have felt when he hit her, because later, after he heard that she had been hit by a car he went to check his car and found damage.
By then, it was too late. He saw her dog, Dash was all right and left, although he didn’t see Delia, all in black in a Halloween witch costume in the shrubs by the side of the road. Delia suffered extensive injuries and died shortly after having been admitted to the hospital. After she died, he checked his car again and then found her scarf stuck in the wheel well of his car.
Again, he felt guilty, but he hid her scarf in his liquor cabinet and he did too little too late. Connor Newman (Judah Mackey), then just a baby, benefited from the cornea transplant made possible by Delia’s death, but Adam didn’t plan it that way. Again, this was an accident but he could have checked more thoroughly. However, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) in this case was also negligent. He should have never left Delia and her dog alone in his car while he went into a store!
We won’t blame young Adam for the death of AJ Montalvo. He was an eleven year old boy trying to protect his blind mother. This being played out does show that Adam is not without a conscience. He blamed himself in spite of being told by Chelsea Lawson, (Melissa Claire Egan), Sharon Newman Rosales, (Sharon Case) and even his father, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) that he should not blame himself. Adam had a nervous breakdown over the traumatic memories coming up!
But here is a list of Adam’s misdeeds over the years. He conspired with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) to write a diary where Victor confessed to a murder. Adam was convicted of forgery in that instance, although Jack apparently got off scot-free. He escaped his ankle monitor several times. He gaslighted Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), which caused her to have a mental breakdown. He kidnapped his niece, Faith Newman (Alyvia Alyn Lind) as a baby and gave her to Ashley as her own.
That crime still is affecting Faith indirectly because of the exposés written and published by Billy in recent months! She has been bullied, lost all her friends, and made new friends but they are getting her in trouble and leading her down the wrong path, and Faith has begun drinking alcohol!
However, these are Faith’s own bad choices, Adam didn’t make them for her. Adam blackmailed a doctor and caused his death, escaped several times from police custody and mental lockdowns and framed Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) for his murder when Adam faked his death the first time. That is just a few of his crimes and misdeeds and mistakes! Adam seems to return to the same old unhealthy and sometimes dangerous patterns. Can he ever be redeemed?
