Disney+ Launching in a Week: What to Expect

Disney is set to launch their Disney+ streaming service in a week from now. The entertainment giant just announced that it won’t be completely free of ads. Since Disney owns the rights to Fox, Marvel, Star Wars, and other properties, it promised that its first-ever streaming service would give subscribers access to over 300 movies and 7,000 television episodes. Disney fans will never have to leave their couch ever again.

Disney+ will also be the official home for new Marvel and Star Wars content. Disney previously announced that it would be free of ads but have since backtracked on that promise. According to a new report by The Verge, Disney+ subscribers can expect to see ads for Starz. This makes sense since Starz owns some of Disney’s movies, including the Star Wars franchise.

Disney+ Launching in a Week: What to Expect

In a licensing deal, Disney agreed to run ads for Starz on its streaming service. But that doesn’t mean you’ll see ads while watching your shows. It’s only a small advertisement that appears on the Android app and certain web browsers. Disney+ has no intentions of running ads within the service itself.
So, what else can Disney fans expect from this service? Every movie and television show imaginable will be made available on the streaming service from the first day. That doesn’t mean everything though. For example, there’s no Captain America as of yet, but you can expect to see a lot of Star Wars content on the streaming service.

Last month, the company released its full US launch lineup. The company created a massive Twitter thread which consists of 300 tweets to make their full announcement. I don’t know about you, but I think a press release would’ve sufficed. The massive thread included popular movies and television shows such as Fantasia, Frozen, Three Musketeers, Lizzie McGuire, Recess, Swiss Family Robinson, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the X-Men series.

There is also plenty of content that’s focused on Disney’s old catalog. Expect plenty of original content, such as High School Musical: The Series and The Lady and the Tramp live-action remake. But there are plenty of other interesting content coming to the streaming service if you’re willing to wait it out. And there is plenty of non-Marvel and non-Star Wars content to come, including animated series and classic films.

Nonetheless, Disney+’s launch lineup is very impressive. The content will be split into seven distinct categories:

Disney animation, Disney Channel Originals, Disney films, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, and Star Wars.
Disney+ launches on Nov. 12. The company is offering a free seven-day trial. After that, subscribers will pay $6.99 a month. What are your thoughts on Disney+ having ads? Share your thoughts below in the comments section.
