They might be royals, but according to their mom Kate Middleton, she wants to make sure that her three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have a life that is as normal as possible. As a matter of fact, there’s a new report that says the Duchess of Sussex desperately wants her children to have normality in their lives. In other words, she wants to emulate her own upbringing. The entire world might know their names, their faces and just about anything you could possibly know about their family, but Kate Middleton still wants her kids to grow up to be just like their friends from school. That’s why she’s determined to be so hands on and involved in everything when it comes to motherhood and her children’s lives.

 Before she married Prince William in a lavish royal wedding back in 2011, Kate Middleton had a rather happy childhood. She grew up with her siblings, Pippa and James Middleton, and even helped her parents Carole and Michael Middleton run their party pieces business behind the scenes. The Middleton family is still very close today, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge alternating between spending the holidays with Carole and Michael and the rest of the royal family at Buckingham Palace.

And while there are certainly going to be a lot of things about Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ life that is going to be “royal,” she also wants her kids to experience all that she experienced while growing up, too.

“She wants to emulate her upbringing, living in the countryside with a close-knit family,” a friend of the royal tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “She desperately wants that normality for her own kids.”
