Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks brings Fred Rogers to life in the new movie “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood” this Thanksgiving. Make room for pie and time for “Mister Rogers”. The trailer promises this is the must-see family of 2019.
Based on the article “Can You Say…Neighbor?” the film reveals the real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and a magazine writer who has become jaded by a world full of unkindness, criticism, and bullying.
Assigned to pen a profile of Fred Rogers, the journalist “overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.”
Tom Hanks turns in a tearjerker performance and there is already buzz that the actor will be nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of sweet, kind and encouraging Rogers. You can watch the trailer below.
Mister Rogers Neighborhood debuted in 1968 on PBS. Intended for a pre-school audience, many viewers continued to watch well past their middle school years. Later on, these same viewers introduced their children to the man who ended every episode with the reminder, “You’ve made this day a special day, by just you being you. There’s no person in the whole world like you, and I like you just the way you are.”
The film should open the door for parents and children to talk about the world and how to make it a better place. A place where kindness, love, courtesy, and acceptance once again are part of daily life.
