Viola Davis Celebrates Daughter Genesis’ 6th Birthday With Sweet Message

Viola Davis’ daughter is growing up! The Hollywood actress recently shared a sweet photo and message for her daughter Genesis on her Instagram account on her 6th birthday.

Viola shared an adorable photo of the mommy and daughter duo smiling for the camera. She captioned the pic with, “You were born from mommy’s heart. I love you so much for accepting me as your mommy. Happy birthday Miss Genesis! Love, love my baby!!!”

The celebrity mom adopted her daughter when she was just a baby back in 2011. And according to Viola, she is very honest with Gensis about her adoption. Back in 2015, Viola opened up about motherhood and how she wants people to know that adopting a child is just as beautiful as giving birth to one.

She told the publication, “I always tell Genesis she was born from my heart, not my belly. There are so many ways to mother rather than to carry a child in your body. So many children need parents, and so many of us want to mother. Know that you will experience motherhood to the full extent.”

Viola also told People Magazine in 2017 that she doesn’t want her daughter to grow up spoiled or entitled. She wants her daughter to understand the value of hard work and of course, humility and appreciation. That’s why she doesn’t throw lavish birthday parties or buy expensive shoes for her child, despite being one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood right now. Instead, she wants Genesis to grow up as normal as possible.

She said, “You just listed my number one fear, which is entitlement. I never had a house. Genesis has a house. I do shop at Target, I buy all her clothes at Target or H&M. And maybe, if I’m feeling really good, Nordstrom Rack.”
