How to Survive to the Last Month of a Multiples Pregnancy

A lot of the time, people ask me how my pregnancy with Ella and Rose was. While I’d been a mother before then, I’d never experienced the true struggle of carrying twins. The truth of the matter that everything from your discomfort to your stress levels double. I remember worrying late at night about every little detail from the babies’ delivery to what I should be eating. In short, it was not the easiest of times for me.

Me at 33 1/2 weeks pregnant. I gave birth at 35 weeks.

If you’re in the last month of your multiples pregnancy, head my advice. There are some things that I really wish I’d known long before I got pregnant with my twins. There are also a few handy little tips that I picked up along the way too. I’m going to share these tips with you guys now so that your twin pregnancy might be a little easier than it is right now!

Let the people around you help!

You are not a superhero. That may come as something of a shock but mark my words. You might feel as though you can handle everything yourself, but that’s honestly not the case. There’s no shame in asking for help from the people that love you the most. Everyone from your partner to your mom will be offering their services to you right now. For goodness sake, you need to take them. Getting a little extra support may be just what you need.

Eat energy-rich foods

Your energy levels will dip massively in your last month of pregnancy. This is actually one of the biggest things that I noticed at the time. It’s hard to get enough sleep, which impacts how you feel during the day.

So, what should you do? Well, I found that eating energy-rich foods, like red meat, cereal, beans, and cheese, was the best thing I did. Eating these foods meant that I got the little pick-me-up I so desperately needed. You absolutely have to adapt your diet to suit your stage of pregnancy.

Start ‘nesting’ in your home

‘Nesting’ is when you prepare your home for your little ones’ arrival. It’s everything from getting their cots ready to buying clothing for them. Of course, this is something that every expectant mother needs to do, but it’s more than just a necessity. When you start to do these little things, it helps you mentally prepare for the babies. That means that you begin to feel calmer about the life-change that’s coming your way!

Take a walk in the park

Get out of the house! I mean it. When you’re pregnant, it’s all too easy to stay at home and avoid going out unless you need to see your doctor. That’s a mistake. Getting out there and getting some fresh air will make all the difference to your mood. Just because you’re carrying twins, that doesn’t mean that you need to hide away. Take the time to go for walks or even just meet your friends for an hour. It will make you feel human again – I know it did for me.

Invest in a pregnancy pillow

I cannot stress how truly brilliant pregnancy pillows are for you. If you’re finding it hard to sleep at night, having one of these things could honestly make all the difference. The brilliant thing about these pillows is that they support your back without being uncomfortable. When I was pregnant, someone bought me one as a gift and my nights were never quite the same again. Get one. You honestly deserve it.

Start planning for delivery!

What’s your delivery plan? The last month of your pregnancy is a crucial time, and so you need to have a plan of action in your mind. Sit down and talk to your doctor (and partner) about what you want to do next. If nothing else, this process will help calm your nerves and give you a chance to ask any burning questions you may have. Good luck, soon-to-be mommies!
