How To Encourage Healthy Eating In Kids

One of parents biggest struggles is knowing How To Encourage Healthy Eating In Kids. Not only do you want your child to be healthy, you know it sets them up for a lifetime of success. Healthy eating plays into how their bodies will grow and function, but also sets them up for better self image and less likelihood of having weight issues as an adult. We have some great tips to help you start changing how your kids eat.

HOW TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHY EATING IN KIDS

Let Them Play With Their Food: Create things like kabobs, shaped fruits and veggies with dip and more fun finger foods. Letting your kids play with their food goes a long way toward them learning to eat healthier foods. Hummus and Greek Yogurt with ranch seasoning are great dips for veggies. Use small cookie cutters, or a melon baller to make fruits and veggies look like fun shapes ids will enjoy.

Hide The Veggies In Foods They Love: Shred zucchini and add to muffins or cakes. Add spinach and kale into their smoothies. Adding extra vitamin and nutrient rich fruits and vegetables to their favorite foods will help them learn to love the flavors and see that they aren’t always yucky.

Try Something New Each Week: Go shopping together and pick out a new food to try each week. New fruits, veggies, wraps, marinades for grilled meets and seasonings can all be wonderful ways to encourage healthy eating in kids. Let your kids pick out what sounds good to them, and even help prepare the treats or meal.

Don’t Force It: If they don’t like a food, don’t force them to eat it. There are thousands of healthy combinations of foods you can try. Try different ethnic cuisines, flavors, herbs and cooking techniques. Don’t get stuck in the same rut of chicken, vegetables and starch. Think outside the box and offer variety.

Working to encourage healthy eating in kids isn’t as hard as you would think. It simply requires a bit of planning, imagination and patience. While your kids may not like some vegetables, there will be at least one they will eat. Just keep trying and you will find success.
