Fall Recipe: Homemade Apple Crisp
What better way to enjoy the start of fall than with a homemade apple crisp? This easy recipe will sure to have the whole family drooling and is perfect with a big glass of milk.
Make a whole day centred around the apple crisp by picking up your own fresh apples at an orchard with the kids. Once home, get the kids to join in on preparing the apples they picked for the crisp.
Ingredients
6 medium sized apples (I used Gala apples) 1 C. sugar 1 tbs. cinnamon + 1 tbs. cinnamon to sprinkle on top of the crisp ½ C. butter, melted 1 C. flour 1 C. quick cooking oats ¼ C. butter, cut into small chunks
Directions –
#1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
#2. Peel and chunk apples into smaller chunks. Evenly spread them out in a 9×9 baking dish.
#3. In a medium size bowl combine the sugar, 1 tbs. cinnamon, flour, oats and ½ C. butter. The mixture will be crumbly. Using your hands, evenly sprinkle the mixture over the top of your apples.
#4. Take the remaining ¼ C. butter chunks and randomly dot them over the top of the crisp.
#5. Place in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes. The crust will brown and the apples should be forkable.
*Makes approximately 8 servings.
