Meringue Ghosts – a Tasty Halloween Treat!

Meringue Ghosts

These spooky little ghosts are a delicious treat for any Halloween party or gathering!  Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, these meringue shaped ghosts adorned with hand painted faces, will be sure to please everyone!

What you will need:

2 egg whites
1 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tsps vanilla
1/8 tspn vinegar
Food coloring (optional if you want to make goblins or other Halloween creatures!)
Wilton gel food coloring
Fine tip paint brush
Wax paper

Process:

Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

First crack the eggs and place the egg whites in a mixing bowl.

Let them sit there for 30 minutes to reach room temp.

Once 30 minutes has passed whip them up until stiff peaks form.

Add the vanilla and vinegar (and coloring if wanted) and slowly add the sugar.

Whip egg whites until fluffy

Mix for another 6 minutes or until the whipped mixture is glossy looking and sugar is dissolved.

Meringue Ghosts

Mix with vinegar, vanilla and sugar until glossy.

Using a piping bag, or ziploc baggy, add a small circle piping tip to the end of the bag then fill the bag with your egg white mixture.  If  you don’t have a tip just cut the hole at the bottom of your bag roughly the size of your finger tip.

Put into piping bag

Layer cookie sheet with waxed paper and begin to pipe your ghosts!

Meringue Ghosts

Pipe onto wax paper.

Start by making a circle about the size of a quarter then keep piping upwards in circles into a cone shape.

Bake for 40-45 minutes or until lightly golden on the top.  Remove from the oven and then from the cookie sheet onto a plate or another cookie sheet.

To paint the faces onto your ghosts use the Wilton gel food coloring and your fine tipped paint brush.  I used black for the ghosts features, and red for the mouths and cheeks.
Have fun with the faces!

Enjoy!
