The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Cane Won’t Be Duped as Matt and Phyllis Plot Their Next Move

The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) took one look at Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) and knew something was up.
The squinted-eye look was aimed at the ever-shady Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), including some random guy, in their meeting with Cane at Chancellor Park.
Why would they have Matt, in particular, with them?
Cane’s suspicion was further raised when Matt asked for his phone number and said that he wanted to meet.
The meeting happened at Crimson Lights, which is the infamous location where Matt and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) battled on multiple occasions in daytime days gone by.
The Origin Of The Newman Family’s Battle With Matt Clark
Longtime fans know that the then-Sharon Collins (Sharon Case) was introduced to the audience in 1994.
Case became the third actor in that year to portray what became a legacy character and, of course, established her place in Y&R’s history.
Matt (originally portrayed by Eddie Cibrian) was Sharon’s boyfriend who became Nick’s rival.
That happened when the reveal about Matt brutally attacking Sharon happened.
Nick’s position as Sharon’s defender was established through that origin storyline, which remains one of the most memorable in that era of this daytime drama’s enduring history.
Matt Clark In Modern Times Is Changing
Surely the threat of Matt reverting to his darker impulses lies behind every moment of his seeming quest for redemption. Currently, that’s tied to his lifting amnesia.
Matt’s had moments where his mind has imposed the many moments of horror he inflicted upon the Newmans.
Though viewers took note that only the scenes Howarth has recorded were included. That was digestible because fans knew Cibrian and, later, Rick Hearst (another version of Matt in the early 2000s), also portrayed this character.

The recast to Howarth implied that a longer stint for Matt was ahead because of the status this particular actor brings to the show. Hopefully, Matt is allowed to grow because that will mean Howarth’s brilliance will continue to flourish.
Phyllis Summers Is Intertwined In This Situation
Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) kept her promise to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). He bought her off by giving what’s left of Arabesque to her in recent weeks.
Victor’s target is Cane, and he knows that Phyllis also loathes him. She appears to be fond of Matt, and in typical soapy form, he’s forgiven her for knocking him out in a Genoa City Athletic Club suite.
This would or will be quite the power couple when it forms. With that cheeky reference to two GC characters being together romantically mentioned only because Phyllis and Matt hold different forms of power separately.
There’s no telling what their energy quotient would rise to if they officially become a pairing this summer.
