Ghost Boy: Famous UK Ghost Photo Trends Once Again – Why?

A 2008 viral photo of a mysterious 'ghost boy' in Teesside resurfaces on Instagram, starting new paranormal debates.

Mysterious and unexplained ghost boy in a photo

Things mysterious and unexplained fascinate people, and a particular photo floating around showed a ghost boy in the shot that wasn’t actually there. Of course, with AI around, and Photoshop preceding that, the photo could have been manipulated. But possibly, that’s not the case, read on to find out why.

A Believable Story?

The story seemed so believable that the Telegraph in the UK published an article about it in 2008. According to their story about it, the picture was “taken by Matthew Summers in Teesside, England.” Even back then, when social media didn’t have AI around, the photo circulated very widely.

From time to time it reemerges, and in 2013, the mysterious and unexplained photo emerged again when the Paranormal Guide shared it. This week, it popped up again on Instagram. In the caption, the old details from previous articles explained what happened:

The little girl you can see crying in the bottom right corner refused to join the group because she said, “The boy is scaring me!” Without giving it a second thought, the girl’s mother later figured out why the girl was crying…when she looked at the knees of the group in the picture.

Enlarging & Making The Pic Lighter

Not everyone could see the “little ghost boy” in the picture. So, like probably countless others, we did some enlarging and lightened the photo. There, between the first and third woman in the photo from the left, sits what seems to be a small boy. The face is at knee-height.

Many reports claim that there wasn’t a boy in the room at all. Well, it can’t be fully explained, but of course, some people said it was a shutter error on the phone camera. Or, perhaps just the way the light fell on curtains in the background. Well, you can rationalize it till the cows come home. But people want the mysterious and the unexplained in their lives. So, lots of folks buy the ghost boy story.

In the Instagram comments, one reader assured folks it was real. They said, “This isn’t AI – It’s a picture from my home town in the early 2000s. I remember seeing it on the front of the local newspaper.”

Here are a few more responses to ghost boy:

  • How creepy.
  • Is it just me or the boy’s face is moving a bit every time I look at the pic longer than 2 secs???
  • Had me feeling like I was in a horror movie for a second there.
  • If we think there is a boy…automatically our brain will figured itself even it isnt.

What are your thoughts? Can you see a little ghost boy? Or, do you think that as the child was suggested to be in the picture, that people automatically assume it’s there?
