General Hospital’s Nathan Dean Talks Name Change
General Hospital (GH) spoilers note that Ethan Lovett made an explosive return to the land of Port Charles this past week.
His character portrayer, Nathan Dean, is officially back in his soapy home and ready to dive into GH storylines. With that said, what’s up with his name change?
Nathan Dean, Not Parsons
When it was announced that the actor was headed back to General Hospital, many fans took notice of Nathan Dean’s name change, as he had originally gone by “Nathan Parsons”. During a Soap Opera Digest (SOD) interview, Dean explained the reason behind this.
The soap star noted that he wanted to be known originally as “Nathan Dean” because “… it rolls off the tongue better.” It also pays homage to one of his “favorites”, James Dean.
With that said, there was already a “Nathan Dean” within the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), so he took the last name Parsons.
Still, as years went by, Nathan learned that actors don’t have to be credited by the same name that appears on their SAG union card.
As such, he began going by “Nathan Dean” after his primetime role on Roswell, New Mexico, which took place from 2019 to 2022.
Dean tells SOD, “It was a big role, it was a new opportunity, and sort of a way to reinvent myself.” He goes on to say, “… now, we’re in the process of legally doing it, and it’s going to be super official at some point, and we’ll go from there.”
Dean added, “But it’s cool that I get to come back and do General Hospital with my new name.”
Dean talked a little bit about Ethan Lovett’s return to PC, without offering too much on his character’s storyline.
He hinted that Ethan’s comeback has less to do with catching up with family and old friends and more to do with something else.
Dean tells SOD, “We know that some other mysterious people have been popping up in town. As we start to learn a little bit more about them, maybe we’ll reveal the real reason why he is back.”
