General Hospital Spoilers: Is It Time To Replace Sonny?

General Hospital spoilers say that for a lot of fans, it seems like now might be the time for someone to take over as the new godfather in this fictional town of Port Charles.

And while some GH fans might have a hard time picturing Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) stripped from his role as the biggest don that this town has ever seen, others believe that it’s time for some fresh blood to come in.

That would clearly make sense seeing how actor Maurice Benard has even said on more than one occasion that he’s been thinking more and more about retirement, right?

But here’s the thing: who would be the best person to replace Sonny and in what direction would the character take the show in?

Clearly, GH fans had a lot to say about the matter on social media.

Some even weighed in with, “There’s always been a criminal/mob/spy element in GH so I don’t think it’s going anywhere.”

“I thought that’s why Dex was on canvas before they made him a cop and killed him off. It could be a newly resurrected Morgan or Spencer. It could be Kristina. She’s shown she has what it takes.”

What’s Next In Port Charles?

Another critic of the show wrote, “The next leader of the mob has been right in front of us for a couple of years now. Gio, with a little help from Jason for a couple of years before he too retires to the coffee business full time. Gio would be the next in line and there’s lots of stories that could be played out with him.”

And then there was this comment as well: “Once again Sonny getting involved with the DA is poor writing, it’s a wash, rinse, repeat storyline unless this is what finally takes him down.”

“In my opinion he’s never fully recovered from the Nixon Falls fiasco as a strong mob boss so maybe it is time to renew some past characters and really shake things up.”

Then again, General Hospital fans will have to tune in each and every day to find out what will happen next.
