Days of Our Lives spoilers and updates are shocking fans with major casting news-there a significant wave of hiring and firing happening at the NBC Peacock soap opera. Recently, four major cast members were let go, and there are five more recasts on the way that will completely alter the landscape of DOOL.
Chad DiMera (previously played by Billy Flynn) to Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and Rachel Black (Alice Halsey) to Arianna Horton (Marissa Reyes) are some.
We’re set to explore all the changes that are about to shake up DOOL, with some departures expected very soon.
The soap took a break for the holidays, pausing filming for Christmas and New Year’s; upon their return, four actors found themselves unexpectedly fired, with pink slips waiting for them.
This is the largest mass firing since the March 2023 incident involving Albert Alarr, which impacted Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker), Gabi Hernandez (formerly Camila Banus), and Belle Black (Martha Madison).
Then there were Shawn-Douglas Brady (Brandon Beemer), and Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin), among others-some of those returned.
Not everyone was completely fired over the Alarr debacle, however, some were reduced to minimal roles and chose to leave. A few have returned since then, especially after Albert Alarr was dismissed amid allegations of inappropriate behavior towards female cast members.
This time, four people were let go: two men and two women. Carson Boatman (Johnny DiMera) and Raven Bowens (Chanel Dupree DiMera) were among those fired.
Additionally, Leo Howard (Tate Black) and Ashley Puzemis (Holly Jonas) were also released. So that pretty much decimates the Salem teen scene; there were rumors that some of these four were in the midst of contract talks, but not all of them were.
Now we need to discuss what this means for the storylines and other characters on DOOL, particularly how Johnny DiMera, Chanel Dupree, Tate Black, and Holly Jonas will be leaving.
We will also cover the five significant recasts shortly-but first, let’s address the four recent firings. As you know, Johnny and Chanel have just adopted little Trey DiMera (Joseph Ihlenf and Jordan Perdue) and are expecting another baby.
Johnny is concerned about the high-risk pregnancy, while Chanel is thrilled. However, Johnny is also anxious that Chanel’s cancer might return during the pregnancy.
Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) cautioned them that they wouldn’t be able to detect the cancer because the same hormones, hCG, produced by her cancer are also present during pregnancy.
The writers could create a tragic storyline for their exit, where Chanel dies in childbirth due to cancer, leaving their baby alive.
In his grief, Johnny might take his two young children and move to Italy to be close to his mother, Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), for support, childcare, and family assistance. This scenario seems very likely for setting up the exit of Chanel and Johnny.
But another happier and more optimistic exit for the two, though far less soapy, would be that Chanel’s pregnancy is healthy and they leave Salem because Johnny lands his dream job in Hollywood.
If you recall, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) recently mentioned Johnny’s big brother, Will Horton (Chandler Massey), is working on a new movie script and couldn’t be home for the holidays. So, maybe Johnny gets a job offer to work with Will, and he and Chanel head to LA; she already told Johnny that she can bake anywhere.
This would let Johnny and Chanel ride off into the sunset together with their two kids, as so far, there’s been no talk of recasting either role.
Given the 9 to 10-month tape-to-air delay, we should see Johnny and Chanel exiting around November or so in 2026, which would coincide with the timing of her giving birth.
That also means Holly and Tate are going to exit in late 2026; right now, Holly and Tate are happy, they’re in love and they’re navigating college life. And they’re part of the active teen scene alongside Aaron Greene (Louis Tomeo), Arianna Horton, and bad girl Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd).
This week, Arianna saw Sophia during one of her Bayview escapes, but she didn’t try to stop her-she did head back to the mental hospital. 2026 spoilers say that she’s soon targeting Holly again-but meanwhile, Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) wants Tate to take over running Basic Black someday.
But Tate’s flunking out of college—which doesn’t seem like CEO material, and the line may be shut down by Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) who just fired Brady.
Currently, Holly is feeling indifferent about her job with Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) after taking a long holiday in Paris. She took a trip to visit her mom Nicole Walker (formerly Arianne Zucker), her stepdad Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan), and her little brother Jude Brady (most recently Oliver McLarty). A simple solution for Holly and Tate could be to pack up and move to Paris.
Holly misses her family there and has already been accepted into the Sorbonne. I’m sure Paris has some community college that the unmotivated student Tate Black could attend or a technical school where he can learn a trade.
Alternatively, the writers might decide to break them up; we know that soon Holly will start acting unpleasantly towards both Tate and her best friend Ari. It could be the sorority she wants to join that turns her into a bad influence.
If they do split, Tate might go to California to be with his mom, Theresa Donovan (Emily O’Brien), while Holly could go to Paris by herself. As of now, there’s no indication that they plan to recast Tate and Holly.
However, we also know that Days has a history of changing cast members frequently-they are not hesitant to swap actors at any time.
Regarding recasts, there are five on the way. This indicates that several actors will be leaving soon, with new ones set to debut in spring 2026. We anticipate that Billy Flynn will finish his time as Chad DiMera in the coming weeks.
He started filming at Young and the Restless in May 2025, which means his exit from Days is imminent.
There will be a short delay before Connor Floyd takes over as the new Chad DiMera on April 21st. We understand that Connor Floyd began filming at Days about a month after Billy Flynn’s departure, so we can expect a gap of four to eight weeks in the air dates for our Chads.
In April, we will see a new Thomas DiMera (Christopher Cary), however, the name of the new actor is not confirmed yet. It’s unclear if the new actor will be the same age or if they will age the character.
Christopher Cary has secured a role in an Amazon series and is expected to leave around the same time as Chad DiMera.
We will also bid farewell to Alice Halsey in early 2026-this role has also been recast, but we don’t have an air date or the name of her replacement yet. Alice Halsey left her role as Rachel Black to take the lead in the Little House on the Prairie reboot.
Additionally, Al Calderon has exited the role of Javi Hernandez, with his departure happening in May 2026; Al Calderon has taken a primetime role in the NBC medical drama Brilliant Minds.
Expect an actor change in late May or possibly early summer, and in March of 2026, we will finally witness the departure of Arianna Horton from Days. An unnamed actor is set to take over the role, making their debut in April 2026.
This change in casting follows the conclusion of a one-year contract, yet no reasons have been provided for the decision to recast Arianna. Meanwhile, the actress is already busy with new projects.
