Soap Fans Are Very Opinionated

Soap fans are not a shy bunch by any means. Some have been known to go way overboard at time. Most soap fans remember Days of Our Lives fans protecting when they thought Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) had been killed in 1982.

In 2024, General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) protested when Sam was killed off the show last year. A star from The Bold And The Beautiful learn just how intense fans can be when confronted in time square in such an incidence. Here’s what happened.

Heather Tom started in soap operas when she was just a teenager. Heather played Victoria Newman for years before moving to One Life To Live to play Kelly Cramer.

In one storyline, Heather’s character was involved in a huge baby switch storyline that crossed over to All My Children, another ABC soap. That baby turned out to belong to Babe Carey (Alexa Havins) and JR Chandler (Jacob Young).

Heather did a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, where she opened up about a confrontation she had with a fan. “The baby switch storyline was super fun, and I loved crossing over between One Life and All My Children, but people had big reactions,” Heather recalled. “I remember I was in Times Square one time, and I was crossing the street to go see a show. This woman stops in the middle of the crosswalk and she’s like, ‘You give that baby back!’” Heather was living in Manhattan, New York at the time and was very shocked by such a confrontation at the time.

Heather Tom Opens Up About The Storyline

As an award winning actress, Heather opened up about how she deals with controversial storylines.

Heather admits that she always asks herself what she would do if she were in the situation her character happened to be in concerning the storyline.

“What tools does this character have to deal with the situation, and what is the base of this emotion? What drives this character? What’s her truth that will color whatever she does?”

Heather added, “That’s what I try to do, and that’s what also I think makes daytime fun.” Heather is celebrating 35 years in daytime. In 2006, Heather returned to CBS and took on the role of Katie Logan, the same role she plays today.

“It’s kind of crazy. It’s amazing to think that I’ve been doing this for so long and consistently for so long. I am so grateful,” the actress said about her long soap opera career.
