General Hospital Maurice Benard And Genie Francis Talk About GH Getting Back To Couples!

Maurice Benard And Genie Francis

General Hospital spoilers and updates tease that Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) and Genie Francis (Laura Collins) recently discussed the state of love in the afternoon on the soaps.

They talked about that, and a lot of other things in the first of a two-part installment on “State of Mind” Maurice’s podcast focusing on mental health.

Genie and Maurice Lamented There Aren’t Any Supercouples

There are many hookups during the day, and while weddings still occur, so do lies, affairs, and divorces. Recently, two well-known stars discussed the decline of couples in soap operas and reminisced about some iconic ones.

On November 16, Genie Francis (Laura) joined her co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny) on his State of Mind podcast. When Benard mentioned that the industry no longer focuses on couples, Francis agreed, saying, “They don’t.”

Benard recalled when Francis returned in 1993, the same year he started, and talked about couples like Sonny and Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil), and Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) with Laura Webber (Francis).

They also mentioned Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) and Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth), as well as Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough), stating, “Couples were the thing.”

Francis And Benard Discussed If The Pandemic Was A Factor

Francis noted, “they’re not doing as many,” and questioned why. She replied, “I don’t know why,” then expressed her thoughts, “Do you think the pandemic changed it because of intimacy?” Benard considered this a possibility and added, “Maybe, yeah. I mean, it could be. I truly believe… look, I don’t question how anyone does their job, but they should return to couples.

He added,  I think that’s what helps”  and his longtime castmate agreed that it does help, and they also discussed various other topics. They talked about  Francis’ social anxiety, her meeting her husband Jonathan Frakes while filming the miniseries North and South, and her current feelings about the infamous Campus Disco storyline.

Genie Talked About How Her Social Anxiety Disappears When She’s Acting, And Current Storylines

Genie mentioned that when she acts, her social anxiety fades away, like a switch in her brain-she can’t fully explain it, but it helps; they also discussed the current plot.

She requested a storyline where she and Maurice would work together, but not as a couple like in “Love In The Afternoon,” and the decision-makers agreed.

Genie and Maurice, as Laura and Sonny, are already fighting side by side for their family and the city of Port Charles against shared enemies.

Their grandson, Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr), has been accused of destroying a lab used for secret projects, and that’s just part of the ongoing storyline. Their current storyline promises a lot of tension, drama, and excitement!
