Days of Our Lives spoilers and updates reveal Suzanne Rogers, who plays Maggie Kiriakis, faced a cancer scare over the summer. Now, she has an update to share, and it’s sounding like good news.
During a recent conversation with TV Insider, at the celebration of the Peacock soap’s 60th anniversary, Rogers mentioned, “I’m getting my energy back.
I’m at about 70%.” On the same day, she disclosed to People that she is now in remission after a particularly “rough” summer, having undergone surgery to remove the cancer and completed radiation treatment. “But I didn’t lose my hair; I guess I got it early.
I was stage two, and it was a specific type of chemo they administered, which was in pill form along with the radiation, and thankfully, it didn’t affect my hair, so that was a relief.”
Last month, we shared that Rogers began her treatment in June, receiving radiation and chemotherapy five days a week for a duration of six weeks.
This coincided significantly with Days of Our Lives’ own six-week summer hiatus, allowing her to largely keep it private.
She relied on her friend, Sunie Ostermann, and Linsey Godfrey (Sarah Horton), particularly since Rogers’ character’s daughter is also a cancer survivor-providing remarkable support during Rogers’ challenging times.
Godfrey would sit beside her TV mother, holding her hand throughout the infusions, and shared dinners with Sarah’s actress, her daughter Aleda, and Paul Telfer (Xander Kiriakis) brought immense comfort.
Unlike the drama and tension unfolding on screen, the actors themselves share a deep bond. “I knew I could depend on them,” Rogers expresses, “making it a wonderful experience both on and off the set; we truly feel like a family.
However, undergoing treatment can be incredibly draining, and although Rogers completed her treatment at the end of July, she is just now gearing up to return to work next week.
Given that the show is filmed ten months ahead of its airing, we won’t witness Maggie’s absence on screen until approximately the end of next summer.
As executive producer Ken Corday clearly communicated to her, Maggie was not going anywhere, and she would be able to seamlessly resume her role whenever she felt ready.
Ultimately, she expressed, “The prayers and the good wishes from my friends and my family were instrumental in helping me maintain a positive outlook. They helped me stay on top of my health, and ultimately overcome this challenge.”
