Actress and model, Coco Austin and her husband Ice-T welcomed their baby girl, Chanel in 2015. Ten years old now, her mom breastfed her for a long time, And this week, she made no apology for it. Read on to find out why she did that.
This week, Coco appeared on the Dumb Blonde Podcast on YouTube. There, she and host Bunnie covered a wide-ranging subject choice. It ranged from her long modeling career through to her relationship with Ice-T.
The conversation also mentioned body sculpting, botox, and more. But as breastfeeding interests so many moms, it’s worth talking about her reveal about Chanel.
Chanel was breast fed from birth until the age of six. Now, that seems excessive in the USA. However, she pointed out that’s not the case everywhere in the world.
As for why she let her daughter suck away well after leaving toddlerhood behind her, it had more than one reason.
Coco Austin said, “It wasn’t like I was feeding her because she needed a meal.” After all, by the age of one, Chanel “was able to eat full solids.”
For Coco, breastfeeding for a long time was more of “a bonding experience. More of like, ‘Okay, I’ll give you the milk,’ but it was more that she wanted to be around me.”
Notably, the desire for breastfeeding didn’t come from her mom. Instead, it came from Chanel and obviously, her mom let her stop naturally. After all, she quipped, “She’s not going to be 16 on my boob.”
Eventually, Chanel stopped all by herself. Plus, Coco Austin argued that over “In Europe” some folks breastfeed their kids for even longer.
An article by NPR cited the WHO, who recommend that kids get at least one year, or even two on the breast. However, any time beyond that is also fine. As long as they also get other foodstuffs.
Discussing another mom from the UK who breast fed longer than Coco, an expert said, “her daughter was “benefiting emotionally and physically.” However, others argued that other kids would probably tease kids who stay on the boob for too long.
Reactions came thick and fast on YouTube. One person opined, “Sorry, it absolutely does not make it normal that she breast fed her child til age 6/7 that is absolutely disgusting bro. hellll no.”
Here are a few more reactions from the discussion area:
