‘Y&R’ Alum Shemar Moore Shares Behind-the-Scenes Sneak Peek While Filming in LA

The Young and The Restless spoilers and updates tease Y&R alumni Shemar Moore (Malcolm Winters) is back filming again in Los Angeles. This is months after the finale of S.W.A.T. aired on CBS.

S.W.A.T. Was Canceled Three Times, A Television First

In a possible first for television, the CBS series S.W.A.T. was surprisingly canceled three times-the network initially announced plans to conclude the show after Season 6 in 2023.

However, thanks to Shemar Moore rallying the fans, the show was given another season, supposed to finish with Season 7-yet, in an unexpected decision, CBS renewed it for Season 8.

Although fans were hopeful they could persuade the network to keep the show going, it ultimately concluded in 2025 with Season 8.

Still, there was a glimmer of hope; Shemar Moore revealed just days after S.W.A.T. wrapped up that the show would return. Sony Pictures had greenlit a spinoff titled S.W.A.T. Exiles.

Fan Favorites Will Appear In The Spinoff

The thrilling update arrived with an unexpected downside: Shemar Moore was the sole actor from the earlier series to commit to the spinoff. Numerous fans labeled him a sellout for choosing to continue without his old co-stars.

Although he addressed the criticism, it didn’t completely fade away; fortunately, Sony had a change of heart.

It was recently announced that two original S.W.A.T. characters will make guest appearances on the spinoff. Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit are set to return as Sergeant Deacon Kay and Captain Hicks.

Filming Has Been Happening For The Spinoff

S.W.A.T. Exiles currently lacks a network for airing; however, Sony is moving forward with the spinoff at full speed-according to Variety, filming commenced this week in Los Angeles, California.

The series reportedly centers on Shemar Moore’s character, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, who comes out of retirement to assist in training a new S.W.A.T. team.

The cast features Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein as fresh faces in law enforcement.

The show’s summary states, “After a high-profile mission goes awry, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson is pulled from forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit composed of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational gap, manage conflicting personalities, and transform a group of outsiders into a cohesive team capable of safeguarding the city and preserving the program that shaped him.”

Behind The Scenes Sneak Peek

Shemar Moore has been the most prominent supporter of S.W.A.T. since its inception in 2017-he’s fully committed to the spinoff as well; “Prepare yourselves for ‘S.W.A.T.’ 2.0! After eight amazing years of overcoming challenges and captivating audiences, we’re set to elevate the franchise to unprecedented heights—bigger, better, and bolder. With a new cast and a darker, more intense portrayal of Hondo, we’re eager to bring this narrative to life and reveal what we’ve crafted together,” he expressed.

He continued, “A huge thank you to the fans and Sony for keeping us going; you won’t want to miss what’s coming next!”Jason Ning, the showrunner for S.W.A.T.: Exiles, mentioned that it felt “electric” to be back on set. According to Variety, most of the crew involved in the spinoff previously worked on the CBS series.
