The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) recognizes that reconciling with Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) will be harder than he anticipated. Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) represents just one roadblock he faces.
Claire understandably felt smothered by Kyle. His erratic approach to courtship, an old-school term that is appreciated by all romantics in Genoa City, Wisconsin, alienated her.
The trip to Paris, France, was followed by an engagement ring bling that flopped. Then Kyle followed, when Claire went to a far western point of the contiguous United States, Los Angeles, California, with a perceived friend, Holden. Everything that’s just been recapped in this paragraph was far too much for Claire to emotionally digest.
Saying that two things can be true at once is legitimate in certain instances. So, Holden can be tagged as an opportunist by Kyle because Owens’ character is taking advantage of Claire’s fractured, but not broken, relationship with Kyle.
Holden has proven to be a good listener and someone who counters Kyle’s pressure with a light-hearted approach.
Claire was naturally drawn to someone who had been genuinely kind to her. He’s also suffered a major loss recently, as she did when Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) unexpectedly died.
While Kyle is the man Claire still loves, her heart isn’t completely filled by him. With no rock on her finger and a form of separation existing, Holden projects as the next man up.
Kyle Abbott Needed In Genoa City, Wisconsin
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) needs Kyle’s help. So, he sent a message to his son in LA.
Kyle realized that he needed to leave Claire before his father reached out. Her response surprised him because she asked if he was giving up. That was both telling and hopeful.
It’s not that Claire banished Kyle forever. As she told him in GC, a break was needed so she could clear her head.
One element of this relationship that Kyle continues to try and adapt to is Claire’s inexperience in matters of the heart. She’s been fully open about that, and he’s been considerate. However, miscommunication and misinterpretation issues persist.
Something Claire is learning is that a relationship is not only what one person wants but what both people need and deserve from each other.
Kyle has come on very strongly, but she’s also sent mixed signals, mostly due to her lack of relationship experience.
Cole’s death was jarring, and that threw Claire off as well. But she and Kyle care deeply about each other. The bond Claire has with Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) is also important.
Claire should continue to give herself time to process all that’s happened, where she’s at, and what options exist moving forward.
There is no soapy guidebook that can help her, and outside influences, including her family, Holden, and others, will be impactful.
Here’s hoping that she’s able to keep Kyle and Holden in her life in some fashion because both men have her best interests in mind.
