The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Billy’s Right And Cane Knows It – Phyllis Has Second Thoughts

The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Billy Abbott’s (Jason Thompson) enthusiasm level for Cane Ashby’s (Billy Flynn) bold takeover plan is waning, if not ending.

Learning that their quasi-mother, Jill Abbott (Jess Walton), was aware of the Aristotle Dumas persona opened Billy’s eyes.

Jill and Cane were in contact during the period when Colin Atkinson (Tristan Rogers) had his epiphany. Billy learned that Jill flew to the estate where Cane and his father were living during Colin’s supposed last days. So, Billy has every right to question Cane’s sincerity.

Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) was thrown by the revelation that Jill knew Cane’s identity, making her place on the so-called team questionable. Billy, Phyllis, and the viewers are also wondering how effective Cane can be, considering he needs two people who clash and are now suspicious of his endgame.

Assuming Colin Atkinson Is Dead

News that Colin died shook the audience. The last viewers knew, Colin fled Genoa City, Wisconsin, and attempted to steal Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) fortune, with Cane (then played by Daniel Goddard) taking the blame.

The recast from Goddard to Flynn also served to reset the character. Lily Winters’ (Christel Khalil) multiple comments about not recognizing Cane represent a partial wink to the audience, as fans know Flynn isn’t the original.

So, Cane’s metamorphosis begs a question. Why should anyone believe him when he says that Colin died?

The particulars of how Cane plans to take over the prominent businesses in Genoa City, Wisconsin, include him withholding various particulars. One could be Colin’s continued presence on this earth and orchestration of the overall scheme.

Phyllis Summers Might Not Be On Board

Phyllis wants to get Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). So, she couldn’t care less if Newman Enterprises is seized.

But Stafford’s character cares for Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and knows that betraying the Abbott family, by throwing in with Cane to also take over Jabot, would produce fierce results. So, it’s reasonable to believe that Phyllis will only go so far into whatever Cane’s use for her proves to be.

There’s also Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). She cares for him as much, if not more so, than Jack and doesn’t want to cause him any upset. That means Phyllis retains the ability to feed back-channel intel to anyone Cane is targeting.

Billy Abbott Must Quickly Recalculate

How can Billy possibly trust Cane now?

The unexpected emergence of Jill also poses a problem. Billy doesn’t know if his mother is a silent investor or will be over him in some capacity, assuming Cane delivers Chancellor as they initially agreed to.

Recalculating means either staying the course and now violating Jack’s trust to an immense degree or divulging what he’s learned. Oddly, Cane told Billy it won’t matter if he does that, but he could be bluffing.

This summer story is ramping up with the twisted and overly lengthy South of France storyline behind us. Fall projects as dramatic for all involved, with no way of knowing the outcome.
