General Hospital Chris McKenna Hints The Killing Of Sonny Corinthos

General Hospital fans were thrilled when Chris McKenna announced that he is now on contract to play the role of Jack Brennan. Since the announcement, Charles Mesure’s replacement hinted that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) might be killed off. Read on for more details.
Killing Of Sonny
Spoilers and rumors suggest that Maurice Benard’s character will end up dead sooner or later. The crime boss lived a long life and came close to death over the years. And recently, Chris McKenna talked about Sonny’s inevitable demise.

Chatting with Woman’s World on August 5, the Station Chief of the World Security Bureau (WSB) in Port Charles, seemed wary of Sonny Corinthos. And it seems that while he’s excited to play a strong role as Jack, he wouldn’t mind if Maurice exits.
Getting Rid Of The Crime Boss
Perhaps saying he wouldn’t mind is the wrong way of putting it from one actor to another. As Jack Brennan, he believes that the day will eventually arrive when Sonny loses his life. Probably, it wasn’t a spoiler, but it could be an educated guess on the future of Jack in the daytime drama show.
Chris McKenna said:
I…believe there is an end game, and that [Jack] believes whatever he’s done is for the greater good. Now, that may very well mean offing Sonny, at some point, because it has to be done . . . but I do think he believes his motivations are justified.
Fans Hate It When People Die
While in real life some actors carry on just fine, it’s not unusual for ABC to kill off their characters. Kelly Monaco was killed off, and so was Evan Hofer’s character, Dex Heller. And Sam McCall was taken out by Cyrus. Later, Josslyn Buchanan killed off Cyrus.
Sometimes, the actors who exit violently return, if just briefly. But probably, unless they spread their wings for a bigger opportunity, they might not be all that happy with dying. In the case of Sonny Corinthos, fans might be unhappy if Chris McKenna’s prediction comes true.
Maurice Benard has acted the role since the early 1980s and has stayed with the show for over 30 years. He’s a mainstay character, and love him or not, the show might seem very different without him.
Is Maurice Ready To Go?
Just a few days ago, when Maurice appeared on the Soapy podcast, Sonny’s actor mentioned retirement. As most people know, he struggles with mental health, bipolar, and anxiety. He said that if he can’t deliver a performance of 100 percent, then he would need to think about stepping down. Three years ago, he talked about how acting isn’t the same as it was when he was a younger man.
It seems that Chris McKenna is correct at hinting that sooner or later, the showrunners will kill off Sonny. But for now, that seems to be somewhere in the future and it might be a decision that Maurice makes.
