Whitney Purvis On Suicide Watch In Jail After Felony Charges

16 & Pregnant alum Whitney Purvis is now on suicide watch following her arrest on serious charges, including aggravated involuntary manslaughter and drug distribution. The update comes just a day after it was reported that she was taken into custody for her alleged role in the death of 34-year-old John Mark Harris.

Mental Health Concerns

TMZ revealed the latest development, reporting that the 33-year-old “is being closely monitored in Georgia’s Floyd County Jail after officials raised concerns” about her mental health. She was placed under suicide watch “within hours of being booked” on Sunday.

As we previously reported, Purvis allegedly distributed a dangerous street drug known as “Tranq.” It’s a mixture of fentanyl and xylazine, which directly contributed to Harris’s fatal overdose in February. A DEA-led operation carried out the arrest warrant at her home this past weekend, and she was booked without bond.

Now, TMZ claims jail officials noted “Purvis was extremely emotional and appeared to be at risk of self-harm.” As a result, they placed the reality TV alum in a special unit where “guards can monitor her around the clock.” She is reportedly under “constant observation” and has limited privileges while in custody.

Arrested During Terrible Grief

The update seems very sad, but might have been predictable. After all, her arrest came just weeks after Whitney mourned the death of her teenage son, Weston Gosa Jr., who died in June at the age of 16.

He was found unresponsive in his bed. However, the cause of his death hasn’t been made public. Due to some mix-up. she also missed his funeral. Whitney said she was deliberately left out of the funeral planning. However,  Weston’s father and stepmother denied it. 

Prior Arrests

Whitney Purvis first appeared on MTV back in 2009. Since then, she’s had multiple run-ins with the law, including a past arrest for shoplifting and allegations involving unpaid child support. However, her latest charges are the most serious ones and she could face prison time.   

No plea has been entered so far, and she has not made any public statements since the arrest. Given the fatal nature of the case, it’s expected that prosecutors will take a tough stance.

When the outlet shared their updated story on Instagram, many fans reacted. One of them wrote, “Prayers for her that she comes out of this dark place.”

Others felt the same way and another reader said, “She lost her son and now this. Smh Poor girl is going through it.”

Meanwhile, others don’t seem worried that someone died after she allegedly provided them with the drug. A follower opined, “Putting me in jail cause my peer decided to be a junkie and overdose is crazy.”
