General Hospital’s Giovanni Mazza Talks Gio’s Violin Crash At The Nurses Ball & The “Takes” It Took To Perfect

General Hospital (GH) spoilers indicate fans are still reeling over the Giovanni “Gio” Palmieri bombshell coming out during the 2025 Nurses Ball.

The character’s portrayer, Giovanni Mazza, recently caught up with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) about the beans being spilled, and the highly emotional scene where Gio decimated his violin on stage.

The Build Up Of It All

Gio tells SOD that he built up momentum going into the scene where Gio tells the Nurses Ball audience that he is Brook Lynn Quartermain-Chase’s (Amanda Setton) and Dante Falconeri’s (Dominic Zamprogna) son, and that they gave him up for adoption.

The young actor tells the online soap mag that this scene was a rare situation where they got to do more than one take.

Mazza stated that he talked to Executive Producer Frank Valentini, and he offered some great feedback on adjustments from one take to the next.

The first shoot of the violin crashing scene was ‘all rage’, according to Mazza. The second take, Valentini instructed Mazza to come from, “… more of a place of vulnerability, of the feeling that I wasn’t wanted.”

GH Viewers Have Applauded Mazza

GH fans are all in agreement: Mazza knocked his performances out of the park, and the soap newbie just keeps getting better and better as time goes on. SOD asked Mazza how he felt about his Nurses Ball performances, and he replied, “I felt very satisfied…. It was a release to the fullest extent. I felt very good about it.”

He added, “I also felt really bad, because so many members of the cast were crying afterwards, and they all just wanted to give me a hug, and I said, ‘No, I’m in such a vulnerable place right now.’ But Amanda came up to me. She gave me the biggest hug, and Braedyn [Bruner, Emma Scorpio-Drake] came up to me and we talked for a very long time after that, and I felt very comforted and congratulated.”
