Days Of Our Lives Alison Sweeney Reveals Sami Won’t Be At John’s Funeral, But Will Be Back In Salem Soon After

Days of Our Lives spoilers indicate that it’ll be a very emotional week in the land of Salem as family and loved ones pay respect to John Black and the iconic actor who played him, Drake Hogestyn.

The funeral official starts on Tuesday, June 10; however, there’s one important person from John’s life who will be missing, and that’s Sami Brady.

The character’s portrayer, Alison Sweeney, recently spoke with Soaps.com about an alternative way that her character will be paying her respects to a man she shared a heartwarming, yet often times, tumultuous relationship with.

Sami Brady Will Still Mourn John Black

While it takes place after John’s funeral, Sami will mourn her stepfather’s passing. Sweeney tells Soaps.com, ““I don’t know if it was meant to be a secret — so I don’t want to step on their toes — but I came back a little bit later because I couldn’t be there for those scenes.”

She adds, “They arranged for me to do it a week later, maybe two weeks later. I do come in and have scenes about John, but my timing was a little bit off after all of that.”

The Struggle Was Real

Sweeney tells the online mag that it was challenging for her not to be there with her fellow DOOL castmates when those key scenes regarding John’s passing and funeral unfolded, and seeing the previews has been difficult.

With that said, Sweeney promises that Sami’s later scenes with her mom, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), will feel ‘realistic’ to Days viewers, as “… mourning doesn’t always happen [when] everyone gets together on one day.”

She added, “Sometimes, that’s an ongoing thing. Having Sami come back and share those moments with Marlena, like a week later or something, allows us to tell that story.”

So, it sounds like Hurricane Sami is set to return to Salem soon, so how will she react to Belle Black’s (Martha Madison) romance with her ex-husband, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel)?
