Cameron Mathison has been a prominent figure in ABC soap operas for many years, portraying Ryan Lavery on All My Children and currently playing Drew Cain on General Hospital. Recently, he has faced significant backlash from soap fans who are shocked by the transformation of his character, Drew.

Drew Has Changed Into Someone Viewers Don’t Recognize

Billy Miller’s portrayal of Drew was cherished by fans, but the current version is not one that GH  viewers are familiar with.

There was even a moment in a supermarket when someone expressed their dislike for Drew to Cameron. This negative sentiment isn’t new for the actor; he faced similar reactions during his time as Ryan in Pine Valley.

It’s been more than ten years since All My Children was removed from the ABC daytime schedule. Cameron, who played Ryan Lavery, was generally well-received, especially in his storylines with Kendall Hart (Alicia Minshew) and Greenlee Smythe (Rebecca Budig), but there were instances when he faced criticism for Ryan’s choices.

Cameron Told The Ryan Lavery Hate  Story On “Live With Kelly And Mark”

During his recent appearance on LIVE with Kelly and Mark, Cameron shared that the level of dislike he’s currently experiencing as General Hospital’s Drew is reminiscent of a past incident.

This was  when Ryan attempted to interfere in the relationship between Hayley Vaughan (played by Kelly Ripa) and Mateo Santos (played by Mark Consuelos). He recounted a memorable moment when a bus driver stopped to yell at him, “Stay away from Hayley.” Clearly, that fan struggled to separate fiction from reality, also known as “reel versus real”,  a common issue for many. Actors just need to keep in mind not to take such reactions to heart!

Cameron’s Recast As Drew Wasn’t Exactly Well Received

The announcement of Cameron Mathison taking over the role first played by Billy Miller was met with a chilly reception. Fans were frustrated with the way the show handled Billy’s exit, leaving him in the shadows.

Although tensions initially eased, they flared up again when Drew pursued Michael Corinthos’ (Chad Duell) wife, Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen).

The couple is now cohabitating and raising their children together while Michael recuperates from serious burns in Germany. This situation is just the beginning, as Drew is also targeting Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Laura Collins (Genie Francis).

Drew’s Vendetta Against The Quartermaines Has Gotten Worse

His grudge against the Quartermaines has escalated, and with the entire family united against him, he has only gained more adversaries.

The connections Drew once fostered have vanished, leaving him with just one supporter, Councilman Ezra Boyle (Daniel Cosgrove), who is also unpopular.
