Mr. Grumpy’s threats upset three people at the dinner table. Victor left before ordering any food at his youngest daughter’s popular establishment.

His later call to an otherwise occupied Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) pressed for intel on Jabot, signaling that the battle is ramping up.

Victor’s plan to take down the Abbotts was oddly offered in a veiled reference. Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) accurate deduction of Victor’s intentions gives him and his parents an unlikely heads-up.

Nikki Newman Knows Better Than Anyone

Victor’s behavior threw Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) because she believed his heart was touched. Like his father, Kyle knew that the man’s blood runs cold.

Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) siding with her granddaughter and Kyle was natural. Yet, she stood up for Victor, rationalizing his rigid comments and prediction of doom for the Abbott family as family protection.

Jack and Diane Abbott (Susan Walters) happened upon the unhappy foursome just as Victor was leaving. Their comments weren’t restrained, including Jack’s open acceptance of Claire into Kyle’s life. That contrast should prove to be meaningful.

Jack Abbott Is A Better Man Than Victor Newman

Smilin’ Jack was a lady’s man back in the daytime day. Devoted viewers notice that flashback scenes have Bergman projecting a much sterner demeanor through his character.

The years have taught Jack a lot. Bergman’s performances became far more nuanced through the years, providing an interesting contrast to Braeden’s.

Victor has always been Victor. But Jack has not always been Jack.

The years have changed Jack into a more reflective soul. At the same time, Victor is the irascible king of the mountain. Yes, he stands on top of Genoa City, Wisconsin, all by himself after all these soapy years and just took a bullet for Nikki. But who would most viewers rather be friends if they needed help and knew they wouldn’t be expected to offer payback?

Claire Newman Seeks Family Acceptance

Claire sees that she has her grandfather’s acceptance but that it’s conditional. He’s overjoyed that she agreed to return to work and serve as Nikki’s assistant in a similar role to when they were at Newman Media.

But the Chancellor spot does not come with open relationship blessings. Victor’s refusal to give Kyle a chance and the coming Jabot takedown he’s planning is sure to roil Claire.

If Victor isn’t careful, he’ll alienate Claire and possibly push her into marrying Kyle early. That might fulfill the mistake Victor’s predicting, though Claire won’t be inclined to see the point of view of the man’s last name she took as her own.
