Marla Adams (Dina Mergeron) accomplished something remarkable when reprising her role as Abbott’s matriarch a few years ago. She took a character who wasn’t relevant in decades and elevated that role to indelible status.

Dina’s reappearance in Genoa City, Wisconsin, proved deeply meaningful. As devoted fans recall, she returned to town for an extended stay in the mid-1980s. Adams was also seen briefly in 1991, 1996, and 2008.

However, all prior appearances, including her first run, were collectively topped by her final stint on the show. Adam’s portrayal of a woman who wanted to make peace with her estranged children and lived out her final years with Alzheimer’s ranks with the finest performances in this show’s recent history, if not its entire run.

Adams’ first Daytime Emmy nomination came in 2018. She rightly earned her first-ever statue in 2021. The longtime actor died in April at the age of 85.

Thankfully, Kyle gained a new outlook in recent months. His impulsive divorce demand cut Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) out for reasons that were and remain irrational.

The suddenness of Kyle’s actions could have led to a reconciliation if Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) hadn’t been written into the script. But she was.

Claire continues to encourage Kyle to make peace with his parents. Kyle began that process with Jack weeks ago. Diane is a different consideration, with Christmas providing the next opportunity to reestablish their bond.
