General Hospital spoilers report Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) has been spending morning, noon, and night at the hospital by Lulu Falconieri’s (Alexa Havins) side hoping that a liver donor would come through in time to save her life.
If not, then at least he spent what was left of it with her, right? But now he’s feeling rather guilty that he’s spent so much time standing vigil at Lulu’s hospital bedside when it turns out the current love of his life — Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) — is the one who will be going under the knife to save Lulu.
So if Sam dies as a result of the transplant, will Dante ever forgive himself for letting her go through with it? Will Lulu surviving — and possibly waking up from her longtime coma — be enough to pay it forward and make Sam’s sacrifice worthwhile? Will Dante ever be able to look at Lulu without feeling the pain of losing Sam?
Starting a few months back, hints were being dropped that Lulu might come back into the picture — which signaled she may wake up. When her health started to tank and her long-term care doctor reported that her liver was in trouble, her family couldn’t believe it — and neither could the fans.
The thought of losing Lulu after all of this time in a coma felt like we might be robbed of the experience to relieve all of that anticipation that has built up ever since the explosion at the Floating Rib.
We wanted Lulu to wake up so that she and Dante could get back on track. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen now.
Dante might be overjoyed that Lulu is okay, but that won’t undo the damage to his heart from losing Sam. Never in a million years did he expect Sam to be the one who sustained any injury or didn’t make it out of this surgery to recover.
Now, it’s looking more and more like she’s going to pay the ultimate price to save Lulu’s life — and that’ll leave Dante reeling and teaming with guilt as though it was his fault. If he and Rocco Falconeri (Finn Francis Carr) hadn’t needed this for Lulu so badly, Sam never would have agreed.
It won’t be easy for Dante to sort through his feelings in the wake of Sam’s death if Lulu wakes up at the same time. For months, he’s felt somewhat guilty for caring about Lulu as much as he has, leaving Sam to deal with her own family conflicts by herself.
Now, Sam will be gone and he’ll be left picking up the pieces of his broken life — and that of her children’s. They wouldn’t be without a mother if it weren’t for Dante wanting to save Rocco’s mom.
This may lead to him feeling a bit of resentment toward Lulu, even though he logically knows she didn’t ask for any of this. If anyone did, it was him, and Lulu’s family.
He may have a bone to pick with them, too. It’s not going to be easy to let himself love Lulu the same way he may have before when he feels like she cost him the latest love of his life.
