Increasingly concerned about Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) erratic behavior, she meets with her at Crimson Lights-armed with a plan!
The Young And The Restless Spoilers: A Daughter’s Unconditional Love
To start, she suggests taking on more tasks at Cassidy First, hoping to lighten her mother’s load; yet, Mariah is oblivious to how profoundly her mother is struggling.
When Sharon fabricates another excuse to dodge a much-needed spa retreat—this time insisting that Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) needs her- Mariah notices but doesn’t become overly anxious.
Faith was recently in a car accident with Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) and Heather Stevens’ (Vail Bloom) daughter, Lucy Romalotti, (Lily Brooks O’Briant).
“Mariah, not fully aware of the severity of Sharon’s mental health issues and her toughest moments, is always inclined to give her mother the benefit of the doubt.”
She tends to err on the side of optimism and truly wants to have faith in her mom,” notes Camryn Grimes in a recent Soap Opera Digest interview.

Sharon’s latest excuse for avoiding the spa raises some serious concerns for Mariah. “Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), Faith, Mariah, and Sharon had all talked about a plan for her to seek help and move forward-so any backtracking is definitely a warning sign,” Grimes notes.
“Mariah, like everyone else, is still trying to grasp just how deeply this situation is impacting Sharon, but there are definitely issues that will set off alarms for her.”
At the same time, Nick is dealing with his own anxieties, particularly after an argument with Sharon, having expressed to her his concern that she may be being too harsh on Lucy. He also challenged her decision to prevent Faith from spending time with her.

The heartbreaking death of their daughter Cassie in 2005, caused by alcohol and a car crash, continues to deeply affect their lives. Nick can feel the emotional instability in Sharon, especially after Faith and Lucy were involved in a similar accident linked to drinking.
Following Sharon’s abrupt departure, Nick makes an urgent call to Mariah, who promptly arrives at the coffeehouse to lend her support.
“Mariah approaches the situation with a different viewpoint than Nick,” Grimes observes; she’s clearly hesitant to jump to dire conclusions, but her concern is evident. They both share insights about Sharon’s fierce determination to keep Faith away from Lucy.”

Nick starts off by inquiring about Mariah’s recent time spent with Faith; she quickly realizes that Nick’s questions are more focused on Sharon than on Faith.
Nick acknowledges her insight; “I find it quite concerning,” Grimes remarks-“Mariah holds a lot of respect for Nick and their shared past”.
While she has her own views and feelings about Sharon and their dynamic, she’s certainly willing to hear what Nick or Faith have to share. There’s also a hint of guilt for Mariah; she doesn’t want to feel like she’s discussing her mother in a negative light.”

In the conversation, Mariah is stunned when Nick discloses that Sharon has been experiencing recurring nightmares about Cameron. Grimes elaborates, “This is news to her, and it highlights that everyone is receiving fragmented information from Sharon, indicating she’s not being completely truthful. She’s withholding the full story;” Camryn further clarifies, “Mariah has always perceived Sharon as honest, so the idea that she could be deceptive is a significant shock.
Up until now, everything has been taken at face value.” Nick then probes whether Sharon is actually adhering to her medication regimen as she has claimed.

As her worries escalate, Mariah decides to make a covert reconnaissance mission to Sharon’s home to uncover the truth-the act of sneaking around behind Sharon’s back weighs heavily on her conscience.
“Taking on this little mission feels quite significant,” the actress shares. “Mariah is filled with guilt and remorse, but she believes this might be the fastest way to alleviate hers and Nick’s fears, by seeking answers that Sharon isn’t currently providing. Mariah’s hoping against all odds that there’s no real cause for concern, that she can gather some information, resolve the issue, and allow everyone to move on feeling more at ease.”

Mariah quietly enters Sharon’s home and starts to explore, but just as she delves deeper into her search, Sharon unexpectedly walks in and questions her presence.
Grimes notes, “Mariah manages to play it cool, though she feels a twinge of guilt for not being upfront about her intentions. It seems like Sharon is somewhat convinced by her act.
At the same time, Mariah is determined to uncover the information she seeks, perhaps rationalizing her actions as the lesser of two wrongs.” Mariah lets out a breath of relief as Sharon accepts the believable cover story she presents.
Y & R Spoilers: Snooping Spree
After tensions ease, Sharon makes her way to the kitchen while Mariah digs through her mother’s purse, Grimes elaborates-throughout this, she wrestles with the anxiety of what she might discover.
“The underlying fear is that Nick could be correct, that he’s hit the nail on the head regarding her not taking her medication. This situation reveals a deeper layer to Mariah’s discussions with Sharon, raising the question of how trustworthy Sharon really is; it’s a dilemma that Mariah hasn’t confronted until now.”
What is Mariah searching for, precisely? “She’s trying to find her medication and needs some time to figure out the prescription dosage and whether she’s been taking enough,” Grimes clarifies.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Very Uncomfortable Paydirt
Grimes continues, “Honestly, a quick trip to the kitchen probably isn’t enough time for me to figure that out-but maybe Mariah is better at math than I am [laughs].
However, it doesn’t really matter because Mariah only finds a bottle of aspirin, not any prescription meds and realizes what this could mean, making her more aware of what is happening. This raises the question: What will she do about it, and will she tell Nick?
Grimes believes Mariah wouldn’t cover for Sharon in this situation because it’s about her mom’s health and mental state. Mariah wouldn’t risk that just to protect Sharon’s image; her love for her mother is much more important.
