General Hospital Spoilers: Much Like Ric & Nina, Rick Hearst & Cynthia Watros Have “History”
General Hospital (GH) spoilers note an interesting development during the Wednesday, September 11 show. After a conversation with both Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos), Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) finally agreed to represent Ava Jerome (Maura West) in her legal case.
Ric wants to offer some answers to his daughter, regarding the death of her baby; however, Lansing had a stipulation/warning to Ava that if she was lying about the accident, he would bury her.
It was interesting to see Ric and Nina interact, considering their history. Ric Hearst recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) regarding the history that he also shares with Cynthia Watros.
GH Spoilers: A History Lesson Regarding Ric and Nina
Digging into GH’s history vault, fans may recall that Ric not only schemed Nina into a quick marriage for her money, but he also schemed with her mom, Madeline Reeves (Donna Mills), who he was sleeping with at the time.
Back then, Nina was played by Michelle Stafford (Young and the Restless’ Phyllis Summers), so working with Cynthia Watros is “new” to Hearst, despite the two crossing paths quite a bit over the years.
GH Spoilers: Rick Hearst & Cynthia Watros’ History
As fans know, Watros took over the Nina Reeves role in 2019. Still, Hearst tells SOD that he’s known Cynthia for years now.
In fact, in 1993 the two met in New York. At the time, Rick was on the Guiding Light (GL) playing Alan-Michael Spaulding, while Cynthia had just graduated college looking to get into acting. While Watros was cast in the role of Annie Dutton on GL in 1994, Hearst noted during his SOD interview that she first auditioned for the role of Lucy Cooper, Alan-Michael’s love interest at the time!
While actress Sonia Satra ended up snagging the role, Cynthia obviously made a strong impression on GL’s producers and Hearst, too. Rick states that he “marveled” at her because there was so much depth to her performance. He adds that Watros got so involved in the audition and he loved what she did.
Unfortunately, it was not the direction GL wanted to go with Lucy, but Hearst added that he “remembered” Watros, and when she finally got the Annie role the following year, he was like, “Oh, thank God they got her, because she is going to be a freaking powerhouse!”
Sadly, the actors didn’t work together as their GL storylines never crossed. Hearst left the show in 1996, and Watros exited in 1998, but the good news is that it looks as if Lansing and Reeves will have more scenes together as the weeks and months progress.
Hearst tells SOD he “loves” working with Watros on GH, which is the first time they’ve had a chance to do so. He adds that she is “phenomenal” and there’s an “ease to her work”. He goes on to note, “From our first scenes together, it just vibed. I’ve really enjoyed it.”
