The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Summer Newman’s (Allison Lanier) suggestion is driving Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) to respond more strongly. He was open to a compromise in the best interests of their son, but that window was shut.
Asking Kyle to remove Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) from Glissade is understandable. Summer sees that woman as a negative influence. However, Lanier’s character does not know Kyle cannot cut Audra out of his life.
Accelerating her push to gain full custody of Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) is bold. Kyle believes Summer’s efforts are despicable and also irrational because she is not his son’s biological mother.
That outlook is ungrateful because Kyle disregards Summer’s open-hearted generosity in adopting a boy that was not her own.
Harrison told his best buddy, Claire Newman (Hayley Erin), that he knows his parents are fighting. He was willing to accept that they were divorced but still enjoyed the times when Kyle and Summer got together and had fun.
The carefree family days spent in Italy and when returning to Genoa City, Wisconsin, are long gone. Kyle, not Summer, chose to end what was a good family.
Kyle destabilizes everyone’s lives because he feels Summer betrayed his trust. That plot device created the still-developing storyline.
Kyle’s fury at Summer for keeping her mother’s faked death a secret now feels even more hypocritical. His feelings about Diane Jenkins Abbott’s (Susan Walters) faked death drove the response to Summer.
Secretly working for Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) needs to be corrected on many levels. Most importantly, Kyle has gone to work for Glissade’s silent investor because he feels doing so will eventually allow that cosmetics company to crush Jabot.
The guy who excoriated Summer for damaging their family now wants to teach his parents a lesson for firing him. Viewers know that Kyle’s insubordination was palpable and forced a no-win decision.
Diane had to replace Kyle. His counteroffer, to make him the head of Jabot, was unreasonable, and Jack could not agree to that haughty demand.
Summer stresses that Kyle is endangering himself and, more importantly, Harrison’s welfare by allowing Audra back into his life. Kyle believes Summer’s concerns are based on her reaction to him having a past personal relationship with Audra that was actually transactional.
Seasoned soap fans may suspect that Summer’s intuition will become proof that she can use against Kyle. That means Kyle, Audra, or both may create a scenario that puts Harrison at perceived risk and will look bad in court. With that, Summer could win full custody, as she hopes.
