We all saw Monday’s episode of DOOL where Jennifer Horton Deveraux (Cady McClain) freaked out saying that she had no connection to the girl that DNA claims is Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Anna Lynne McCord), she stormed off apologizing, but wow, was that ever an awkward exchange!
Afterwards, she and Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) decided that it was all too much and that they needed to go back to Boston. Actually, that seemed to be mostly Jack’s idea, Jennifer initially wanted to stick around but Jack managed to convince her that it was too much to soon and eventually, she agreed.
It’s a strange thing though, that Jack would feel the connection to Abigail when Jennifer does not. However, the 50% DNA match was on Jack’s side, the DNA test did not mention Jennifer at all, it was just assumed that these two share mitochondrial DNA.
Still, it seems like Jack and Jen are in two completely different planets when it comes to Abigail. Jack is ready to accept this new daughter into his life, even if she doesn’t look like the same girl that he raised.
However, Jennifer is not feeling the connection and is frankly rather horrified at the thought of some “imposter” trying to replace the daughter that she lost and has grieved for.
One can understand just how disturbing it would be for a Mother, who could look into her child’s face and see her own blood reflected back at her, to suddenly be deprived of that would be quite jarring.
Clearly, no one envies the plane ride back to Boston that Jack has to endure with his wife, but could this new development with Abigail signal the end for Jack and Jen? Since Jack seems to want to accept Abigail and Jen does not, this could cause friction between the couple and eventually lead to a split.
Since they spend a lot of their time in Boston right now, we may only gather this from the fact that only Jack is hanging around Salem, at least in the beginning.
It could begin with Jack moving to Salem full time to help Abigail adjust, after all, she may not want to spend time in the DiMera mansion just yet with hubby Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) even though he is champing at the bit for her to remember so he can make his move.
One could see where she might want to put a protective Dad between her and any advances Chad might make, not to mention the children – they haven’t done the awkward chore of telling them that their Mom is possibly still alive yet and Jack might could help them smooth things over, at least a little bit.
Then perhaps things escalate, between Jack and Jen, and maybe a dear John (dear Jack?) letter would be involved and the two would split off-screen.
Or, Jen would come back for a massive blow-out split with Jack just as this new Abigail’s memory returns, because that is just the way things work in Salem, harmony is just a word, a word that no one really seems to be familiar with.
Whether the two remain together remains to be seen, but speculation says to look for Jack showing up all by his lonesome in Salem a lot more often now that Jen has flipped out. Stay tuned!!!
