General Hospital Spoilers spill Giovanni ‘Gio’ Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) came to Port Charles as a rising violinist who stole everyone’s attention away from the happy couple at Harrison Chase’s (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn Quartermaine’s (Amanda Setton) wedding.
But he’s quickly becoming much more than that, and we have a feeling Gio is going to come in hot with his own storyline that will blow the fans away.
Stepping backward to that wedding night, Gio was instantly intrigued by two key players in the room — Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).
Of course, who wasn’t intrigued to see Jason there? But Gio so admired hearing that Dex served in Afghanistan that he made time to thank him for his service and ask him about it.
Obviously, the story he had been told about his father serving overseas didn’t collide with the right timeline for him to have been present when Dex was there. But something tells us there is more to this story.
The fans are rather divided on who Gio’s father might be. On one hand, the story that his dad was a good guy who died in the war seems honorable. On the other hand, we haven’t even heard the guy’s name.
Assuming he has one, are we to believe Gio has never sought out any of his family or tried to figure out any other information on his pops — especially in light of his mother dying when he was ten?
While many fans are insisting Dex may have known Gio’s dad, again, the timing doesn’t line up. But that doesn’t mean they may not be connected in some way — especially if it ends up they are both linked to Jason somehow.
Jason didn’t flinch at the sight of Gio at the wedding, and he hasn’t mentioned a word about him being in Port Charles — not even to his bestie, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright).
But that’s not entirely out of character for Jason. Theoretically, if Jason is somehow Gio’s father, he could know about him and have stayed away all these years upon his mother’s request. Jason is honorable enough that he would do something like that and never tell a soul.
At the same time, it’s possible he never learned he had another son out there, though we have no idea how that son ended up being raised in Bensonhurst.
Yes, this is starting to sound a lot like Olivia Quartermaine’s (Lisa LoCicero) ploy to keep Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) out of Dante Falconeri’s (Dominic Zamprogna) life.
We do know that one of the closest things Gio has had to a father has been his benefactor and “uncle,” Sonny. The mob boss has never wavered in his support of making sure Gio had everything he needed — and then some.
Funding his private music lessons and helping to shape him into a proper musician who could follow in his mother’s footsteps was the least Sonny probably felt he could do after she died. But is that all there is to it, or is Sonny aware that his former best friend, Jason, is Gio’s dad — and has kept it from him all this time?
If that’s the case, we expect the war between these two is far from over. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to see how this plays out.
