The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Writer Josh Griffith Explains Connor’s Condition And How It Affects His Real-Life Daughter

The Young and the Restless spoilers show that viewers have had a lot of theories concerning Connor Newman’s (Judah Mackey) mental health storyline, even going as far as saying that he is “faking” it so that his parents, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) will get back together.

However, there’s a pretty big and specific reason that rumors like this are not true and it has to do with the head writer Josh Griffith, and his own personal experiences with his children.

Just earlier this month, Griffith was on a panel called “Changing the Narrative: Children’s Mental Health in Entertainment and Media,” where he spoke about Connor’s OCD storyline.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Connor Newman’s OCD Is More Than Meets The Eye

It turns out that Griffith’s daughter has struggled with OCD for many years and his goal with this storyline is to spread awareness about the condition and show the treatment process. It’s also clearing up any other confusion about OCD and how it is very much a real issue.

It was really important to me because there’s been such a misunderstanding of what OCD is — it’s often the brunt of a joke, ‘Oh, my OCD is acting up today!’ — when it’s so much more complex and terrifying than that,” Griffith said.

Y&R Spoilers – Connor Newman Is Definitely NOT Faking

With Connor’s diagnosis, it’s very clear now what Griffith is trying to do, and to have Connor “faking” something like this that is so dear and close to his personal life would be a slap in the face to the viewers.

Of course, in the background, there’s still a possibility that Adam and Chelsea will get back together on their own, but it’s absolutely clear now that there is no way that Connor would be faking any of these issues just to try to get his parents back together.

This storyline is the real deal and there are even public service announcements at the end of the episodes, so it’s clear that they are taking this storyline very seriously, both because of mental health, and because it focuses on a child.

What do you think? Are you glad that the show is tackling a storyline like this that hits so close to home, or should they focus more on ridiculous, over-the-top, back from the dead-type storylines?
