General Hospital spoilers reveal it was only roughly a year ago that Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) completed her nursing training and was headed for stardom as the next Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) at the nurses’ station.
We were eager to see her put all of that compassion and concern for others we witnessed when she was a school teacher back into action.
But here we are just a short time later, and Willow is second-guessing her entire career track. Somehow, she went from wanting to take care of others and fighting to beat cancer so she could finally embrace becoming a nurse, to wanting to barely work so she could be at home with her children.
While there is no shame in the latter, we have to wonder what made Willow decide she initially wanted a demanding career and now wants little to do with any professional life at all.
We’re hopeful that the hospital staff Willow has been working alongside will take to her departure for greener pastures a bit better than the fans are.
After how long and tirelessly Willow worked at becoming a nurse — some of that throughout having cancer — the fans are questioning how she could just turn off her desire for the career at a minute’s notice.
Willow and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) have been anything but the conventional Quartermaine couple. When we first met Willow as a school teacher, she was fierce about advocating for children and wanted to help serve others.
It’s unclear why she ever pivoted away from that field, but becoming a nurse seemed like a lifelong choice. Now, barely a year later, she’s once again changed her mind — and her personality. The majority of the fans aren’t here for it.
While there have been no complaints that Willow is anything but a hard worker and a quality nurse, that doesn’t mean the staff at GH will lament her departure.
Unfortunately, it sounds like there might be a nursing shortage at GH right now. Maybe that’s where Josslyn ‘Joss’ Jacks (Eden McCoy) is eventually going to find herself fitting in, rather than being a doctor.
It sounds like there may be some disagreement among her colleagues about her loyalty to the profession. Most nurses don’t throw away the key after only a year of work.
While they might sympathize with her desire to be with her kids more, it may also sound like she’s leveling up to become a spokesmodel who is too good to serve others.
While not everyone in Willow’s orbit may embrace her lifestyle and career change, Michael will be all about it. He’s been encouraging her to take a page from Lila Quartermaine’s (Anna Lee) book and take up the mantle at some charity.
That didn’t seem like Willow’s style, but the more she talks to Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) about The New Tomorrow Foundation, the more eager she is to get started.
With Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and everyone else rallying behind her, what could go wrong? There’s just one thing…The New Tomorrow sounds eerily familiar — almost like Dawn of Day. Is trouble brewing in Willow’s new line of work? Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to find out.
