Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: Dan Feuerriegel Opens Up About Playing EJ Recast, “I Will Never Be James Scott”

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers suggest that Dan Feuerriegel has truly settled into the role of EJ DiMera since he stepped into the part in 2021.

It wasn’t an easy task as actor James Scott originated the SORASed character back in 2006, exiting in 2014. Still, when Soap Opera Digest (SOD) recently asked a variety of daytime drama stars for advice to give an actor playing a recast, Dan got very real with his response.

Days Spoilers: Dan Feuerriegel – ‘Do Your Own Thing’

Dan has plenty of experience as a recast, and entering a popular, yet polarizing EJ role was a challenging task. Feuerriegel’s advice to actors entering a recast was, “Do your own thing. Obviously, they will try and mold you so there is a sense of the previous character or previous portrayal, and it’s not that much of a shock (to the audience). But, be your own person, be your own actor, because that is what you are.”

He also added, “I will never be James Scott. He is a completely different person with completely different life experiences. He played EJ the way that he did. I’m going to play it the way I do.”

While it did take a little time for fans to warm up to the new EJ, it’s undeniable that Dan’s won most everyone’s heart; especially with the powerful scenes he had in 2023 when he believed he lost his baby with Nicole DiMera (Arianne Zucker) and more recent storylines that have seen him play a darker side to EJ.

DOOL Spoilers: More Recasting Advice

Feuerriegel wasn’t the only soap star that participated in the SOD article, fellow DOOLer Leo Howard (Tate Black) also chimed in, noting, “Portray your version of the character. You were hired for a reason and for your take on the character. So, present your most honest version.”

Other soap recast actors that were spotlighted in the SOD piece included the Young and the Restless (Y&R) Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), his Y&R co-star Conner Floyd (Chance Chancellor), as well as General Hospital’s (GH) Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves), Laura Wright (Carly Spencer), and Tabyana Ali (Trina Robinson)
