He could just tell his girlfriend that he “took a friend”, when that friend was actually Summer.

Still, that doesn’t seem like Chance’s style. He’s one of the good guys, and he likely doesn’t see an issue with asking Summer to go and letting Sharon know it is Summer he’s taking.
