Disney Announces Disappointing News For Muppet Fans

It’s a sad day to hear that the Electric Mayhem Band will soon be disbanding for good. Why? Variety has announced that Disney+ cancelled “The Muppets Mayhem” just after one season.

Bill Barretta, Adam F. Goldberg, and Jeff Yorkes developed the ten-part series for Disney+ when it was ordered in 2022. In May 2023, it premiered on the streamer.

Jeff Yorkes Reacts To News of “The Muppets Mayhem” Cancellation

Shortly after the news, one of the creators Jeff Yorkes took to social media to pay tribute to the show.

“What a long, strange trip it’s been!” Yorkes wrote on X. “The highs (thanks Zoot!), the lows… A huge thank you to our loyal fans and viewers. I hope audiences continue to discover our little show and that it brings them some joy… and some Mayhem!! Rock on!!”

The official description says that the series follows “The Electric Mayhem Band – Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet – on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album.

With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora (Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album.”

While it’s unclear how the show performed on Disney+, the series was certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 86% critics score and a 95% audience score. The critics consensus reads, “The Muppets Mayhem might be too slight to find the Rainbow Connection, but its ragtag band of plucky puppets and plethora of showbiz gags make for a solid addition to the franchise.”

6 Emmy Noms And A #1 Billboard Album

However, it may not be all bad news yet, as Goldberg insisted that he isn’t ready to say goodbye to the world of Muppets.
