General Hospital spoilers and updates tease Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) and Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) will confront their issues. The question is at this point, can this marriage be saved?
Curtis and Portia have had a rough row to hoe ever since Portia made the decision-which she now regrets-to try and keep Trina Robinson’s (Tabyana Ali) paternity a secret.
Jordan Ashford’s (Tanisha Harper) interference hadn’t helped matters any and Curtis still feeling a pull didn’t help any either; but they managed to behave themselves.
But now all that is behind them and Curtis is adjusting, reluctantly, to life in a wheelchair-even though he finally moved back, they’re still in separate rooms.
Curtis and Trina are adjusting to being father and daughter and she’s more forgiving of Portia, and everyone is basically doing the best that they can given Curtis’ unfortunate situation.
Curtis stays frustrated that he can no longer do the things he used to do-things like rescue Trina from Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy).
Portia, as a doctor, knows she can’t fix what’s wrong with Curtis-pretty much, it’s been diagnosed as a permanent issue, although physical therapy is needed.
Curtis has finally come to the point where he has accepted he may never get his legs back so he’s focusing on upper body strengthening.
But, at least he’s stopped feeling sorry for himself and trying to diagnose himself via Dr. Web, MD and for that, Portia is grateful.
What it boils down to now is whether the marriage vows “in sickness and in health” and Portia and Curtis’ commitment to the vows and each other is real.
Not every couple is strong enough to withstand what Portia and Curtis are dealing with, and in this case, commitment and mutual love is all that could hold them together.
The one thing that Portia knows is that Curtis almost died, so the part of the vows that say “till death do they part” almost was real for her.
Curtis has adjusted to his condition enough for him to return to his club, The Savoy, and he doesn’t need legs to work to run it.
So now, the issues that Portia and Curtis need to resolve are those of love and commitment; do they love each other enough to stay together?
Curtis is clear with Portia that he doesn’t want pity, and if pity is what she feels for him, he’d just as soon she set him free. Hurtful as that is for Portia to hear, she knows that he’s telling the truth.
