General Hospital (GH) spoilers squeal Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) knew what he was doing when he stopped by Carly Spencer’s (Laura Wright) place in the middle of the night.

He wanted to do her a favor — an act of love he had been trying to show her for months but she would never accept his olive branches.

This time was different. Although he made it clear the gift was for her, his connections helped him get Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) released from solitary confinement early, and she couldn’t have been more grateful. Still, they both knew what this meant. Sonny has the upper hand.

General Hospital Spoilers — No Strings Attached?

Carly has been resistant to Sonny’s help time and time again because she knows him so well. She understands that he doesn’t actually do anything for free.

Rather, while Sonny will go out on many limbs for the people he loves, he won’t hesitate to call them to task when he wants repayment.

That time may not always come, but the potential for it is there if you take his handouts. Carly knew when Sonny offered her Drew’s safety behind bars that it wasn’t something she could deny herself or her beau.

Still, Sonny’s gift came as a bit of a peace offering, and Carly’s tearful response and willingness to meet him halfway and laugh about his “win” over her told us all we need to know: this pair is not finished with one another.

Some fans have speculated for a while now that we are slowly headed toward a Carly and Sonny reunion, but it looks like this is going to be a slow burn getting us there.

Some fans are here for it while others are thinking, oh no, not again, but it’s safe to say Carly is still carting around a big piece of the mob kingpin’s heart.

No wonder Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) is always so darned paranoid!

A CarSon Collision?

While on the surface it appears that Sonny has offered to take Drew under the wing of his protection during his stay in Pentonville, the reality may be that Sonny is also putting up a good front — and putting on a good show.

He needs Carly to believe he did all he could to protect Drew, especially if something should happen to him while he’s incarcerated — a thought he knows is too troubling for Carly to bear.
