Hallmark’s New Aurora Teagarden Actress Skyler Samuels Shares How She Chose Not To Reach Out To Candace Cameron Bure

The Hallmark Channel has moved quickly to revamp some of its signature movies following the departure of actress Candace Cameron Bure. The network has already scooped up actress Skyler Samuels of Scream Queens fame to take on the role of Aurora Teagarden, which was once played by Bure who left to join the Good American Family Network.

Samuels will star in Something New, a fitting title for a whole new series of Aurora Teagarden movies. The movie will be a prequel to the adult version of the titular character Candace Cameron Bure has portrayed since the start of the adaptions in 2014.

Since signing on to play the Hallmark sleuth, Skyler Samuels has shared how to prepare to take on the role and whether or not she reached out to her predecessor Candace Cameron Bure about taking on the beloved character.

“No, I’ve had no contact with Candace, and I watched the old movies for inspiration. But the truth is, Candace has her interpretation of Aurora as an adult, and I definitely have my own interpretation of Aurora as a young adult,” Skyler Samuels shared.

The 29-year-old went on to add, “So it’s not so much a reboot as it is a reimagining of Aurora and her world. The aesthetic and the tone are very different than the original movies. There are definitely components of Aurora that will feel familiar to the original version, but we’re really seeing a different side of her. She’s less polished, she’s not very good at solving mysteries yet. We’re watching her come into her own. This is definitely a new Aurora in many ways.”

A Familiar Face Makes An Appearance In Mystery Prequel

The new Aurora Teagarden prequel will also star Marilu Henner as Aida. Henner also starred in the original movie franchise. Evan Roderick (Spinning Out) will play Arthur with Kayla Heller (Superman & Lois) on board as Sally. The installment follows Aurora and her investigations after she returns home to Lawrenceton after she graduates college. Something New has already debuted on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries with the network set to re-air the mystery movie in the coming weeks.
