Whitney Way Thore shared the news that her mother, Barbara “Babs” Thore passed away on December 7, 2022. Unlike most celebrities, Whitney didn’t ask for privacy during this time, instead, Whitney encouraged anyone who loved her mother to attend the funeral.
My Big Fat Fabulous Life Spoilers indicate that despite Whitney’s invitation, the show has fans all over the world. Not everyone could attend Bab’s funeral in person. Whitney posted a short video from the funeral to share with fans on her Instagram page. The video shows pallbearers, including Buddy Bell and Tal Fish, carrying Babs’ coffin into the building possibly for her service.
Whitney added a poem by Henry Scott Holland that begins, “Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was.” This beautiful poem is a fitting tribute to the beautiful spirit that Babs was. Fans thought the poem was perfect but wish they had heard more from Whitney who posted, “Rest in peace, Sweet Mommy. You were the best mother and my best friend. I will love you and live for you every minute of the rest of my life.”
One fan said, “Thank you for sharing your beautiful mother and her spirit with us. We are so blessed to have witnessed her love for you and you for her. May she rest in eternal glory.” Another fan shared, “You will feel her everywhere and in all of the things. Keep a look out and ask for signs. Babs will surely give them to you. Thank you for sharing this journey; we need more people talking about death and grief.”
Babs suffered her first stroke in 2017, however, that was just the beginning. Babs recovered from the first stroke pretty well, but the family was warned that more would occur. In late 2021, Babs had a second stroke that left her in an assisted living facility. Babs was in good spirits even though she needed a wheelchair to get out and about.
After Babs passed, Whitney shared the following, “My mom had cerebral amyloid angiopathy, which is an untreatable progressive condition caused by proteins in the blood vessels of the brain that can cause dementia, seizures, or like in my mom’s case, brain bleeding (hemorrhagic strokes),” she wrote. “When mom had her first stroke in 2017, we were told of this and we knew that more strokes would eventually be inevitable. Mom’s second stroke was December 28, 2021, and her last was November 13, 2022.”
Babs and her southern charm will be sadly missed by all MBFFL fans.
