The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers and updates tease that Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) saw this coming. Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) is stirring trouble across Genoa City, Wisconsin.
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) is not wrong to feel hurt by Phyllis’ words. But what she said to Diane was a heat-of-the-moment comment to a bizarre rival who was dead a handful of weeks ago.
Diane believes that Jack is obtainable. Jack does not believe that is possible. But Phyllis does, with her mistake being that she allowed Diane to push her buttons.
Diane faked her death to the point of claiming to have been murdered. In a soapy scenario that begs more detail and some recreated retrospective scenes, Diane worked with Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), who obtained a corpse from the morgue.
Instead of Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) having killed Diane in self-defense on the bridge at what is now Chancellor Park, the character was then played by Maura West (Diane) survived. She moved to Los Angeles, California, and became a real estate agent. Okay.
Diane’s amazing comeback story includes using Jack’s unrealized granddaughter, Allie Nguyen (Kelsey Wang). That alone should force Jack to forgive Phyllis for being thrown off by Diane.
Phyllis was coming out of a relationship she did not want to end. But she recognized that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) could not maintain his emotional commitment to her.
The above part of the storyline felt pushed, and it was, as the intent to split Phyllis and Nick happened so Stafford’s character could become part of Jack’s retro arc. Bergman’s character refuses to recognize that Phyllis’ feelings, not just his, are important.
Diane made many people victims when she faked her murder. Jack and Phyllis were two of them then and now.
Diane does love Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). But in what way has she demonstrated, with consistency, that she is willing to sacrifice herself for any other human being?
Jack can not believe that Diane’s head games are not influencing Phyllis’ erratic behavior whenever she is around. It is also important to note that Phyllis maintained her demeanor when she and Jack were forcibly reintroduced to Diane in LA.
Now, Diane has intentionally re-invaded GC. And invaded is the right verb to use.
Diane attacks, rather than create relationships. Allie called her on that, most recently doing so at Crimson Lights.
Phyllis needs to quickly compose herself and then hope Jack comes around because it would be a shame if this particular pairing does not get another chance at love on Y&R.
