The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers and updates that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) is once again full of himself. That is not news but a risky pose to take, especially with the future of the Newman family business being in flux.
Adam is foolishly bad-mouthing Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle) as being responsible for the trouble the family business is facing. Rubbing salt in soapy wounds is the type of low-brow tactic Adam employed in the past and smartly restrained himself from partaking in for a long time.
Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) rightly sees his youngest son as maturing but still needing to advance beyond early adulthood status. Verbal put-downs, like the ones Adam is offering, combined with his relationship with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope), do nothing to advance Adam’s goals.
Victoria has endured many battles with her father through the years. Some of his methods, like having her arrested on one of the days she married Billy Abbott (as then played by Billy Miller), were wrong. At other times Victor was toughening his daughter up for business world fights.
Victor offers his children many opportunities to prove and redeem themselves. In recent years the Moustache has admitted to crossing moral lines. That reflects an awareness advancement.
This more enlightened point of view has allowed Victor to demonstrate significant restraint where Victoria and Ashland Locke’s (Robert Newman) personal relationship was concerned. Victor’s nuanced approach allowed him to maintain his connection with Victoria, which now allows her to employ a gotcha plan.
Adam correctly views Ashland as Newman’s enemy. Lying about cancer is horrendous, as doing so violated Victoria’s trust and led to the problem of the realized merger.
Meanwhile, Sally has convinced Adam that they will be safeguarding Newman-Locke while Ashland’s ouster is plotted. Adam believes he can reinforce his value by focusing on Newman Media and applying pressure to his unwanted brother-in-law.
But Adam does not have the personal restraint that Victoria has steadily built through the years. He is more cutthroat, as Victor acknowledges, but not nearly as wise as his oldest sister.
Victoria had to take the lead in her various marriages to Billy (as now played by Jason Thompson). As a mother to three children, which includes being the adoptive mother to Billy’s son, Johnny Abbott (Holden and Ryan Hare), she exudes responsibility and self-sacrifice.
Heinle’s character made her father a take-it or leave-it offer to be Newman Enterprises Chief Executive Officer in the recent past. He took it, proudly telling his first-born that she earned the title.
Victoria is best-positioned to learn what Ashland did and simultaneously defend herself from Adam’s undermining attacks. She may not emerge unscathed. But betting against her would be as wise as betting against her father on Y&R.
