Allie told Tripp that she chose him but it was right after she passionately kissed Chanel. Tripp asked if she was sure and Allie said she was before pulling him into the bedroom. During the upcoming week, Tripp will take the next step by telling Allie that he loves her.

It turns out that Allie has never been in love before and has never had anyone tell her that they love her. So, for Tripp to say those words is unnerving for the young mother. As for Chanel, Arnold admits that Allie is still trying to figure out her feelings for Chanel, but it’s completely new to her as well. So, Allie is being bombarded with new experiences and is a bit overwhelmed by everything.

Allie also feels that Chanel is the more dangerous choice while Tripp is safe and provides a sense of stability. Allie feels that is what she needs right now — stability — even though sometimes she wants to risk it all with Chanel.

Arnold said that the really big issue with Allie not saying “I love you, too” has to do with how she feels about herself and her trauma.

“I think that regardless of Chanel, Allie would have still had these feelings because I think Allie’s biggest issue is being vulnerable after everything that’s happened to her. She has a lot of defense mechanisms that she goes to and she has a lot of walls up, and you’re going to want to protect yourself after the situation that she’s been through. So I think that regardless, she would have a hard time saying “I love you” back or even just accepting the fact that someone loves her… It’s more about her own insecurities…”
