Bridgerton spoilers and updates tease that Phoebe Dynevor shares the plans of the show’s creator on how they will address the notable absence of her character’s leading man, the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page).
Fans may recall that Regé-Jean Page announced that he’s leaving the show back in April 2021. He explained that he only intended to appear in one season.
Page described his character as a “bomb of one-season antagonist” who managed to discover his true self through Daphne. The actor noted that the show’s romance genre allowed fans to enjoy a happy ending.
“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end – give us a year,” he explained.
The actor added that this romance genre was different in a way because the audience knows that they will get the happy ending they want, “the marriage and the baby.” So when viewers watch the show, they have some sort of assurance that everything will be fine even if they go through these “emotional knots.”
In an interview with The Wrap, the actress revealed that they’ll probably be mentioning Simon a lot in the upcoming season. Fans will get to see their baby but the story will focus more on Daphne’s relationship with the Bridgerton family.
“I think the fans who have read the books and know the books are aware that every season will focus on a different sibling’s journey,” The 26-year-old actress added that for those who have read the books, they have a good idea that it’s different every season. Each season will feature the story of one of the Bridgerton siblings.
“And it might be a little bit more of a—not shock, but like a surprise for the fans that love Daphne and Simon’s story so much. But I think that’s honestly the joy of the show in the long-term, getting to see these different love stories play out,” she explained.
The actress also noted that every new season will tackle different love stories so it’ll be “really different” and “magical.” She commended the show’s uniqueness and explained that “there’s not many TV series” that can offer what their show can. Shona Rhines and Chris Van Dusen have created something unique and “every season is going to have its own magic, which is great,” the actress said.
Bridgerton Season 2, which is still based on Julia Quinn’s novels, will focus on Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) love triangle between his fiancé and her older sister, Kate Sheffield.
